What a fabulous stay! The hotel is beautifully presented, spotlessly clean and has a lovely atmosphere. Our bedroom was of the same high standard and really exceeded our expectations. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good - plenty of fresh bread, fruit, yoghurts etc.

Perfect! We only stayed for one night, but it was lovely. Hosts were friendly and kind, with good local recommendations. We were lucky enough to have Room 1 which has an amazing terrace and a small kitchen area - perfect for us and our friends to use during our stay.

The place is so different with a wild west sand avenues, next to bird filled marsh. The views across are spectacular, particularly with sunrise and sunset. It is so romantic to walk along the promenade, and then sit and listen to the sound of the marsh. The area has a magical feel that is only felt by visiting. I have been going for over 20 years on and off, although it has expanded, and changed, the local people are still friendly.
There are a range of restaurants, although you do have to look around if you are vegetarian or vegan, but there are 1 or 2 that do serve that kind of food. Two in particular stood out, Restaurante Casa Marcelo, and the helpful and excellent Jose. Food was amazing, unfortunately we only found it the day before we were leaving. If you are into meal, highly recommended. An excellent vegetatian restaurant, highly recommended La Canaliega.

What a unique place. No paved roads ( by design ) all sand.
What a unique place. No paved roads ( by design ) all sand. Horses, carts and donkeys. Fascinating and unique spot next to a National park. Weekends VERY busy and lively. Might be boring after a few minutes during the week. A town of less than two thousand people that can swell to a million during pilgrimages.
It’s like a carnival- never seen anything like it. Easy to walk around town.

It's the most unusual town I've seen where the "roads" are sandy as horses seem to be the preferred mode of transport. It's got the Doñana National Park tours available within walking distance of the centre (private and group tours) and a lovely square in front of the church overlooking a lake which fills with water in winter. Bird watching is a "must".

El Rocio, a surreal Andalusian town, left me awestruck.
El Rocio, a surreal Andalusian town, left me awestruck. The tranquil marshlands, wild horses, sandy streats and striking buldings create an otherworldly atmosphere. It's a serene haven amidst the vibrant region of Andalusia, where nature reigns and surprises around every corner.

We chose El Rocio for an overnight stay due to a trip between Tavira, Portugal and Málaga, Spain. We were very surprised to learn El Rocio was a horseback-riding hub and that its dusty streets and Western-themed houses seemed to come straight out of a Hollywood Western! El Rocio is a very unique town!

Wonderful surprise of a town.
Wonderful surprise of a town. Totally dedicated to horses and donkeys. All roads and lanes are sand (for horse feet) and nearly every building has wooden or metal railing to tie up your horse! Birdwatching paradise. Would be 5 out of 5 if the local council graded the roads to get rid of the bad bumps and holes. Not good.
It was an amazing stay, I'm so thankful to have chosen Hostal Santa as my accommodation in El Rocio. The staff was extremely kind and helpful (Gracias Cristina y Maria!). The house has a great common area and very good Spanish feelings. The room is super cozy, shower works well, and AC also. Breakfast was worthy (including "jamon"!) if I'm back to El Rocío I'll be glad to stay here again.
The property is very authentic and clean. Abraham and his family is so welcoming and helpful with organizing everything. If you want to organize horse back riding etc, Abraham will make a phone call and everything is all set. Parking is so easy and we love El Rocío! The hotel is located in a very nice quiet area near everything. We would definitely go back there again. Thank you!
El Rocío is unique. On Saturday night it can get loud with all the revelry of the many brotherhoods there to pay respect to the patron, but Pepe and Antonio’s place is away from most of the action. I don’t know how they keep the rooms so clean with all dirt streets; no pavement anywhere.
Great birding in March.
Not like any other town in Spain; everyone decked out on horseback.
The location was fantastic in a very beautiful street near the main squares. El Rocío is a quite unique place and well worths a visit even if you don't go there for religion. The recepcionist, Rocío, was very kind. The room was bright and spacious and had a very nice terrace. The breakfast was quite reasonable for the price. Free parking on the street.

The apartment is in a very large building near restaurants and the sites of El Rocío. It's clean, spacious air conditioned and fully equipped for cooking a small meal. The bed is very comfortable and the room is bright. Lola gave us great tips for the area
Good breakfast. Staff very friendly. The whole property is really pretty and very well kept. Excellent location for El Rocio. Easy to drive to the National Park and the beach. Bathroom was big, lots of space.
Facing the lake - clean, traditional. Friendly check-in. Fantastic view of lake, lakefront plaza and the cathedral from the patio. Fun to tromp through El Rocio’s sandy streets.
