It was a super big apartment, very comfortable. very Quiet. Francisco was really helpful. There is a very nice trail to Canyon Buitreras nearby and other nice walking along country roads. El Colmenar is a super small, remote location . The station name is Gaucin, which is the name of a town 9KM away. so make note of that.

Tourists from overseas, like myself, often spend our time in Spain seeing major sites in several big cities, but I would highly recommend what I finally did: renting a car to get off the beaten path to a beautiful place like this--with hiking in the nearby cork oak forest (Alcornocales), the backyard orange grove with chirping birds, and a small town with great people. The therapists here offer massage and a range of other therapies--Lucas explained the options in detail (and can speak English, fyi) so I could decide what was right for me. Rural Casa Ahora is a beautiful retreat space where you can enjoy exceptional hospitality.

The hospitality was outstanding and facilities very satisfactory. We showed up dripping wet, cold and muddy from a day of hiking in rain and were welcomed as though we were family. Great ambiance, food and service at the bar-restaurant too. Huge shout-out & thank you to the very helpful and friendly Veronica who took time with us even though she was run off her feet all evening!

It is sort of a mountain 'retreat' kind of place, as opposed to a hotel. It is pretty basic, which I don't mind, but many travelers are less flexible than I am.

Great location with walks in the cork oak forest on one side and the Cañon de las Buitreras (Gorge of the vultures) on the other. We loved the forest walk and the Cañon is spectacular and the vultures awe-inspiring.

El Colmenar is a sleepy little village halfway up the railway line from Ronda to Algeciras. It is on the boundary of the great cork oak forest of Los Alcornocales and has wonderful wildlife. There are three restaurants in the village and one food shop. There are lots of short and longer walks in the area - especially for serious walkers.
