Staff were very welcoming from the moment we walked in the door. With only 2 days in the town we did not dine in the restaurant but the breakfast, though basic, was excellent and the service was prompt and friendly. We did have a drink in the bar and again the service was superb, and the price good for a hotel bar. Building is 'quirky' with a lot of short staircases, being built on a hillside. Reception is on the lowest (street) level and standing at the front-desk you have rock facing you.
An easy walk (downhill) into the town and the café's and other 'tourist attractions'.
We thought it was a great hotel and would happily stay again, but those who want easy movement with gleaming stainless-steel lifts everywhere might be happier elsewhere.
Set in the centre of Aracena, Hotel Convento Aracena & SPA is housed in a charming, restored 17th-century convent. It features an outdoor swimming pool, a spa, gardens and cloisters.
A period manor house dating back to the end of the 19th century, situated in a stunning setting, within the Aracena and Picos de Aroche nature reserve.

Staff were excellent, the hotel decoration and atmosphere were great, the rooms were very comfortable, the beds were fantastic. The restaurant offers best quality cuisine (really!) for a fair price. We loved the place. Will come back.
This apartment hotel, located in the heart of a nature reserve, is a wonderful destination for those who wish to spend time closer to and appreciating nature.

Loved that all the buildings were white washed and of uniform size. No carbuncles. Only spoilt by a massive Barcelo Hotel dominating one of the hills. The person allowing it to be built there should be shot or at least give his back-hander back.....
It is a must to visit the Caves and the Castle/Church. Entrance price very reasonable.
A lot to choose from when deciding where to eat.
A lot of places however were very unfriendly to you if you had dogs with you.

Great little town.
Great little town. Famous caves are well worth a visit plus the Castillo. Lots of excellent Restaurants/Bars. The surrounding countryside is the main reason we visited the area and we were not disappointed. Did two amazing hikes, fantastic!

I visited in the first week in March.
I visited in the first week in March. It was colder than I expected (daytime highs of 11-16C). I was primarily interested in hiking and booked a rental car. Aracena is close to all the hikes in my guidebook so I only encountered the town itself in the evening getting groceries and finding restaurants. As always with Spain, it's so frustrating that no restaurants open until 8.30pm, some have "days off" which are not announced and many, even in March, were entirely closed. One really needs a local to help navigate where to eat. Having said that, it's incredible value for money. Dinner with wine for 20 Euros (March 2024).

Aracena was a cute town with a lot of surprises.
Aracena was a cute town with a lot of surprises. The people are friendly and the town is clean and safe. Be sure to visit the Gruta de la Maravillas, a network of caves with wonderful stalactites and stalagmites and underground lakes. Also, the pork in Aracena is to die for. It's the land of Jabugo, the best dried ham in the world.

Although the apartment looked to be placed far away, it was close to the center by walking. The staff of the hotel was really kind and friendly as well. We would have liked to stay much longer than expected, we spent only a night there though.

Beautiful town in the mountains, cobbled streets and white buildings. Great views from the castle on the hill. Famous for the Gruta de las Maravillas which are definitely worth visiting. Great walks in rhe surrounding hills, through cork forests. Really friendly and helpful locals . It was great to try out our Spanish .
The staff was very welcoming, accommodating and friendly. The waiter Pablo and the cook in the hotel's restaurant deserve a special mention as they provided an exceptional service. They even modified a recipe for a dessert following our suggestion.
The room was spotless, with plenty of good towels
Particularly enjoyed the breakfast of Tostada Pueblo - thick t oast with olive oil and tomato
Found free on-street parking very close to the hotel, visible from the balcony
The hotel is in the centre of town, and it is walkable to the most interesting sites. Very helpful reception staff and there is a locker room where you can leave your bags if you want to take a wander.
