It is a great place to get ferries to Morocco or to get the shuttle to Tarifa to do the same.
I have been before and found it to be a pleasant small town with a good patisserie/bakery that had Moroccan foods (briouwats, mini pastilla, etc).
The reason for the 'average' rating of the town stems from the fact that the place I booked was unhelpful and would not allow me to access the property at midnight even though I had paid in advance. As a result I was stranded and had to wander about at night, sleep on a too short stone bench and cat nap until the FRS ticket offices opened.
Algeciras is reasonably easy to navigate on foot. There are some cafés by the central market that open early for the traders. There is also a Carrefour express in the area between the train Station and the port with a full selection of goods.
I cannot rate 'Conv3nient R00ms - F3rry, Tr@in & Bus $tation' as I was not allowed entry to the property at midnight (late trains, missed connections) having paid for in advance my room. Unfortunately the proprietor was not helpful and I was left wandering the streets all night as not other hostals were open. A cold night with a very short stone bench! (Perhaps this is a rating?) I would avoid this place on my next visit and look for a better rated (more expensive hostal/hotel.
I would love to return yet again to Algeciras under better conditions and have an actual 'holiday there, rather than using it merely as a travel interchange. The town looks lovely and no doubt has things to offer away from the mildly salubrious Tran Station/Port area.

Gibraltar can not be reached by train, and one needs to stay a night somewhere to explore Gibraltar. Algeciras is ideal for this stay, and if you are here, then spend some hours for walking Algeciras,

After being in Marocco for 2 months, it felt like I was still in Marocco, but at the bus station, you can get a bus ticket to Madrid for €21.78, it's a 9 hr bus ride and only makes a 30 min stop, but it was worth it, didn't like Algeciras, but the stay at the Hostel was brilliant, only thing the property needs to do is, undated on how you enter the property.

A much more authentic experience of a Spanish small city/town. Less busy than most other locations in this area and we loved it. We could easily have stayed a week. Very good tuna combo plate at Maridaje.

We weren't intending to stay here but had an extra day due to the ferry cancellation. The centre was small enough to walk round and was interesting enough without having anything really noteworthy.

a really nice city, they are a lot of options to eat Typical food there, i ate Tapas and lot of ham, to get around you can simply walk, take a taxi or just use the public transport. we liked going out and have a few drinks wich was not a problem because all the options that are around the city.
Absolutely the BEST place to stay if arriving by train - the hotel is located right across the road from the station, and next to the bus station. It was only a ten minute walk to the ferry terminal, and in the other direction the center of town was also about ten minutes walk. A very comfortable hotel with everything you would need for a good night's rest. Organising a day trip to Gibraltar from here was as simple as walking next door to the bus station. The town itself is worth a look.
We rate this in the top 5 views of any hotel we have ever stayed in, and we have been traveling as adults for over 40 years. Amazing view of the Rock of Gibraltar from the breakfast room, rooftop patio and outdoor lounge area. Gorgeous! Wonderful staff too - I misunderstood the limited check in time and someone waited over 6 hours to let us in. That is service beyond compare. Beds were comfy, the whole place is spotless, and we plan to return next year in summer.
Very friendly helpful people who went out of their way to help us. Our room was clean, quiet and comfortable, and the shower was excellent. The location near the ferry port and shared kitchen facilities were a plus.
We look forward to returning to Algeciras to explore more of the area and would stay here again.
Very nice hotel room. Easy keys collection from the 24h reception desk. Modern, clean, large room with functional layout. Free street car parking in from of the hotel. Good location close to the port and ferry terminal. Free breakfast included in the price. Strongly recommend.
The hotel was well centered. It was walking distance to a lovely park for kids and a few mins drive to the malls.
The hotel also had a convenient garage and all the amenities in the room.
The bathroom also had a bidet which was great.
The location was spectacular! I loved the old charm and history of the hotel and I could not have asked for a better view of the Port and Mediterranean Sea. I most appreciated the grab bar that was installed in the shower. Excellent!
A hotel about three kilometres from the city centre. Good and kind treatment from the employees. . It is a beautiful cafeteria with an Andalusian style. Great coffee. Greetings to all employees.
Great location - very convenient to the port, bus and train stations. We were just passing thru Algeciras for the night.
The host was very nice and accommodated us in short notice.
we never stayed there it was a bloody disaster We found the property but couldn’t get in Rang all the buttons couldn’t get any sense so went to an hotel Very disappointing
The appartment was very spacious and clean and we had a very large roof terras all to ourselves. City centre is only a 10 minute walk. Very good food and drinks in Algeciras as well.
