Live like a lord of the castle… The eventful history of our castle goes back to the 12th century. The Schloß-Hotel Petry is a family business and is now run by the Bell family in the third generation....

My son-in-law and I were walking the Mosel-Camino and it was an ideal stopping place. We were welcomed very cheerfully and had a very good meal with white wine. We were tired so it was good to be able to eat in. We had a very good breakfast next day. Very important when on a walking trip. I think the husband was busy with the grape harvest but we had a good chat with the wife. Very relaxed and comfortable and really lovely part of the Moselle.

This 3-star hotel in the scenic village of Ellenz-Polterdorf offers a bar and a full breakfast buffet. The Moselstern Hotel Fuhrmann has a large terrace directly on the River Moselle.
Treis-Karden is a good base to go hiking. The hiking trail to Burg Eltz was very nice, I did the black route. The last part is the heaviest part. I went to the viewing point of the castle and then went back. I did that because there is an entrance fee that you have to pay for the castle, even if you just want to order food and drinks.
In the afternoon I went to Mörsdorf to visit the Geierlay hanging bridge, which was awesome. Note that the bus (line 746) does not go there every hour and that the line is not currently on Google Maps. So search online for the schedule or visit the tourist office in the train station. During my stay the buses ran from the water-side of the station instead of the official bus stop, so double check if that is the case for you.
Both these things could have been their own day, since there are more hiking trails available in both places.

This is a perfect base for exploring the Mosel river valley.
This is a perfect base for exploring the Mosel river valley. With 2-3 days to find all the sites up and down the river, from Trier, up river, or downriver to Cochem, every little town is worth a stop. The owner of this B & B is very helpful, friendly, and proud of her 16th century home.

I visited in early Nov. probably the visiting pick is already off (ie. no ship stop already). Treis-Karden has train station which almost all the trains from Koblenz to Trier stops (only 4-5 big stop, Treis-Karden is likely among them).
Beautiful small town with slow speed and very local way of living. After sunset people go back to home. ^ ^
To Eltz burg, from Trees-Karden is possible. there is a burg bus (not so often). It is about 5-6 km, also walkable (200-300m up) with very nice view of Mosel valley.

Location in Treis was good with nice terrace to enjoy "stubies".
They provided space in their garage for some of our motorbikes,
Dinner was around the corner at Hotel Weinhaus.
As a stopover on our motorcycle tour from Landeck Austria to Rotterdam, this was ideal.
The owner was very kind to us. The breakfast was great, we had a lovely day start in the morning. Near to Burg Eltz, Geierlay bridge and Cochem. Also we ate dinner at the hotel, it was delicious, the wine is tasty.
The hotel was very centrally located and there was a restaurant in the building that had very good food. The staff were very nice and helpful. There was a bakery across the street that served a nice breakfast.
