Our beds where very comfortable, the staff exceptionally friendly, and the location was fantastic. Walking to old downtown was only 20 minutes and a great view along the way and if you didn’t want to walk a bus stop was directly in front of the hotel.

Mainz is a German city on the banks of the Rhine River, just a 40-minute drive from the vibrant metropolis of Frankfurt. Combining the old with the new, this destination has a historic centre with modern structures, monumental buildings, half-timbered houses and Baroque churches.
One of the main attractions of the city is St. Stephan church with the colourful stained glass windows by Marc Chagall. The weekly market in front of the Cathedral features everything a traveller could wish, from flowers to fresh local products and clothes.
You should not miss the futuristic building of the New Synagogue designed by Manuel Herz, as well as the museums of Mainz State, Ancient Shipping and the Gutenberg Museum.
Known for its sparkling wine, Mainz is Germany’s wine capital thanks to its excellent 200-year tradition. The natural reserve of the Mainz Sand Dunes is home to pre-glacial plant vestiges and rare animals.
Frankfurt International Airport is about 20 km away and has flights to Amsterdam, Los Angeles, Madrid and Copenhagen. Designed by Philipp Johann Berdellé, the Central Station of Mainz Hauptbahnhof connects the city with Mannheim and Rüsselsheim. Mainz is a relaxing city with lots to see and do and super friendly inhabitants. The Rhine gives the place its character and is, for me, its main attraction. Sit at the Mole beer garden (self-service, laid back) on a summer's evening to see for yourself. Or bring your own bottles and hang out with the local youth nearby on Saturday or any other night.
The Altstadt is charming and pretty low-impact even in August. Kneipe Klingelbeutel serves good cheap food and has a great selection of beers and friendly staff. Behind the Staatstheater there's a good shopping district and you can find plenty of international (especially Near and Middle Eastern) food just beyond that all around Lotharstrasse and the adjacent Neubrunnenplatz and Neubrunnenstrasse in the Bleiche district. Another ten minutes will bring you to the Neustadt and lots of hipsterish bars and cafés around Gartenfeldplatz.
For me, the Botanical Gardens were the highpoint of the city (main cemetery and UNESCO site also close by). St. Stephan zu Mainz is another must, with its famous blue-ish windows and wonderful cloister. (Donate - it's free in!) The city park is another gem, with flamingos and a birdhouse for the kiddies, rolling lawns and huge grand old trees. The Gutenberg Museum was a bit of a let-down, and extremely hot in August. But the main attraction, apart from the Rhein, is just the city itself and its feel.
...Which is why walking is the best way to get around, although there are frequent trams and buses. Trains out of town are handy but remember it's the S8 and not S9 S-Bahn to get home (both go to Wiesbaden).

It's my second time in Mainz and every time when I arrived here, it feels like it's not Germany anymore, like I'm in a different country. The city is very alive, very welcoming and very unique with its red sandstone buildings, its narrow shopping streets or with its nice restaurants with outdoor seats and live music from the street performers in Marktplatz.
There is more to explore in Mainz, so I'll definitely be back.

A small city with very little to do apart from churches.
A small city with very little to do apart from churches. The river is beautiful, but the majority of the city is bland.
The traditional food was very good and easily the part of the trip.
However, we were racially abused by a fellow patron of a restaurant who called us 'untermensch' and verbally assaulted us for speaking English not German. The restaurant did very little to help us.
Overall I felt rather unwelcome after this and wished to return home immediately. You are better off just staying in Frankfurt

We were in Mainz for only two full days but saw and experienced a lot. The Altstadt is beautiful. We visited the Gutenberg Museum and enjoyed their mini-workshop a lot. As an artist, my favourite was the St Stephan's Cathedral, with the stained glass windows designed by Chagall. I did not know of its existence, and I loved it! The Roman Theatre at the Romische Teater train station was not that impressive, as we could only look at it through construction wire. It would have been nice to sit there and contemplate its history. Nevertheless, I am glad I saw it. We also visited the Volkspark on a public holiday, and it was interesting to see how ordinary German families enjoy a sunny day.

Mainz is a fantastic city.
Mainz is a fantastic city. It has all the flavors what I long for. The strong history heritage, z.b. Mainz dom; the best wein Jard region of the world, z.b Rhine Weingau; authentic German food; the active growing business environment; the city is not big but just big enough for everything. Mainz is the city , the longer you stay, the more you love and you will go away. Ich liebe Mainz.

Lovely accommodation, close to the train station with plenty of restaurants and shops nearby. Not too far from the shopping centre and the old town and the river are within walking distance. The room itself was spotlessly clean, with cooking facilities if needed. The room was cleaned daily and there was a breakfast included which, although described as a 'snack' was Lovely and fresh and more than enough to start the day. The staff could not have been more helpful and communication was excellent. I would certainly recommend this hotel.
This is a simple business hotel located in an industrial/office outlying area. It is too far to walk into the historic part of Mainz. The rooms are modern if a bit on the small side and the mini bar has free non-alchoholic drinks like juice, soda, and sparkling water. The beds are very firm but comfortable. The air conditioning was strong.
Every member of staff were so pleasant and helpful. Good size room in older but very clean hotel directly across from the train station. Breakfast had great choice and served from 6:30 weekday or 7am weekend. About 15 min walk into old town centre of city. Would recommend.
Great location near Mainz Main Railway station and tram stops outside hotel.
Air conditioner in room during 37°C heatwave was a plus.
Staff were efficeint great when we wanted to printout paper documents.
Rooms were cleaned everyday.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable room with good air-con. Good breakfast buffet. Hotel well located, only a short distance from main train station - and a variety of shops and restaurants. A good hotel for a visit to Mainz.
