What a wonderful place to spend a few nights. Beautiful countryside all around, and only a ten minute drive to Point Alpha, or five to nearest town of Geisa with shops etc. Owner was a lovely lady, genuinely kind. Intricate detail all around this charming house...think candles and flowers. Great room, so clean, same for bathroom, comfy bed, deftly quiet at night so good for sleeping. Stunning garden to sit in with a beer in the evening. Breakfast which was superb was served in a separate large wooden cabin. What a joy to eat a freshly prepared breakfast of fruit, yogurt, eggs, and cold meats and chesses etc etc in such a setting which even had a working wood burner. If only all establishments could pay half as much attention to detail as these owners do...

Geisa is a nice little town with old architecture (Schloss (actually the hotel), the parochial church (which features a carillon), and a nice park). It is located on a hill, so walking can be steep. In terms of shopping, it has all the facilities for the basic needs, including a large REWE supernarket within walking distance from the city centre. Finding a restaurant can be somewhat tricky, if the two or three options are closed or full. This also applies for the immediate surrounding. Being close to the Checkpoint Alpha memorial and not far from the Wasserkuppe and other highlights of the Rhoen, Geisa makes an excellent base for excursions into this region. Presumably the car is the best option to get around but there are also local buses, apparently quite frequent.
Very nice dogfriendly hotel. Nice views, big and clean rooms, breakfast is good and the area invites you to walk. Eisenach and the Wartburg in 40 minutes by car. Schwartzes Moor in half an hour. Oberhof in one hour. A number of small restaurant's very nearby. Can recommend Gaststatte Zum goldenen Stern down the street and Das Lammchen in Schlitzenhausen (9km)
