Hotel Dorotheenhof, hotel in Cottbus

This hotel is located close to the town center, by the old cattle market, and lies just 1640 feet from the main railway station and the state theater.

The property was close to the train station and well located in the older part of town. The staff were very friendly and helped us as best they could even though we didn't speak German. Rooms were clean and thoroughly serviced, we had a great time and felt we got very good value for money.

A beautiful historical town. Especially the Market Square.

A beautiful historical town. Especially the Market Square. The streets and buildings retain their old character, just as if you would take the city of 1935 and give it some modern paint. This feels very interesting. Also, there are some (fortunately, not too many) buildings from the DDR era, which makes the city even more interesting. The city is very green and there are a lot of beautiful old trees. The university area is well organized, you can have quite a good lunch in the Mensa at excellent prices. We have also tried "Der Stadtwächter" restaurant, and the food (and beer) was just great. The city is also interesting due to the Sorbian heritage. There are biligual street signs, and some institutions, e.g. the Lodka, where you can buy Sorbian books, souvenirs, try talking Polish/Czech/Sorbian to the people in these institutions. I think it is important that the tourists, especially from Slavic countries come and ask about it.

We planned to see the Spreewald.

We planned to see the Spreewald. When choosing the location of accommodation, we focused on the most popular addresses: Luben, Lubennau, Cottbus. The first two turned out to be small, very touristic villages with nothing specific to offer. Cottbus (Chociebuż) is a big city with a very nice old town and good restaurants. We were very pleased with the choice

There are some lovely parks within the city and in the vicinity. Unfortunately, probably because of the weather and the season, there wasn't much opportunity to eat in the fresh air. We mainly walked around the city, which is quite compact.

Cottbus is a significant city in the Lausitz region. One of the things we wanted to see was the Wendishes (Sorb) Museum, they were closed to enable changing the exhibits. We had good food and saw some interesting sights. It is close to the Spreewald as well.
