(This is a review of Burg Hohenstein im Taunus, not the Burg Hohenstein in Bavaria - Booking.com doesn't clarify which Hohenstein they refere to) This castle ruin (free) was very interesting. We could wander many areas on our own and climb to the top of several towers, with outstanding views of the surrounding areas. There are several signs (German only) describing the history. No tours seem to be available, but as a positive, the ruins are incredibly uncrowded - we were almost there alone on a Saturday afternoon in September. If you are in this area and have an hour, don't miss this ruin.
