Braunschweig gets overlooked, but the art gallery is the second largest in Europe after the Louvre. Would make a great stopover on the way to Berlin (direct motorway). Very reasonable and not overcrowded. Excursions to the VW works in Wolfsburg next door, or Wolfenbuettel (Lessinghaus, castle and library). The old inner German border crossing of Helmstedt Marienborn (monastery) would be another day trip, or the slightly further Harz mountains. Braunschweig was the capital city of a dukedom and therefore boasts a theatre and a swimming pool.

The information office was difficult to find but once there it was found, it had all the information you wanted and the staff spoke good English if your German was not good.
The cathedral and other churches were worth a visit
Need more than a couple of days to really see and enjoy the city

Braunschweig has a beautiful center with very old historical (much rebuilt after WW2) buildings, and also a very modern shopping mall (Schloss). People are very easy going and friendly. There are many opportunities to eat and drink on a terras or inside places.

Visiting the Christmas Market was the Highlight, it was beautiful, with a lovely atmosphere and yummy food aromas. The Christmas decorations everywhere were gorgeous.

Second time visiting and my preferred hotel in Braunschweig for short business visits. Standard rooms are not very big but well organised and equipped. Tasteful Lounge/lobby and breakfast area that doubles as a nice place to get some work done with power outlets generously dotted around. Good service and very nice breakfast. Good location right next to the train station and all public transport with the city centre just a short tram or scooter ride away. The free pass for the public transport they give you when you stay comes in handy.
Price quality this place is kinda hard to beat. Of course the hotel is outdated and lacks luxury. But, what can you expect for this extremely affordable price?
Breakfast is more than decent, with fresh and warm oven baked bread, a selection of cheeses and meats, eggs etc etc. It was regularly refilled when finished.
Location is great, not much more than a 5 minute walk to the Christmas Market (downtown).
The room we had (nr. 25) was clean and very quiet, though a bit smallish. Beds and pillows were fine.

The hotel staff was super friendly and helpful with all my questions and requests. I even forgot my phone charger and the hotel staff gave me one, which I was allowed to keep. Very grateful about it!

A large hotel opposite the main station so ideal for the train or in our case excellent parking for the car. The hotel had a magnificent breakfast and close walking distance to the city centre which was a delight as were the sites. Dinner was great at a nearby restaurant specialising in potato cuisine. The walk home was very safe and in one street (Adolph St) past elegant homes. Our hotel room was perfect and the staff especially the receptionist was helpful and pleasant.
Very convenient location, easy to find, cozy and comfortable. The room is big enough with a kettle/coffee/tea. Very clean, comfortable bed. It is actually located along side relatively large street but quite quiet. There are lots of places to eat or buy food around the hotel. Not dangerous area for night walking.

We love this hotel and always stay there when we come to Braunschweig. Very clear, helpful staff. Breakfast is great. Hotel doesn't have its own parking but there is a parking garage right across the street. Very convenient.
We had some issues due to (temporary) parking behind the hotel at a place where it was not allowed. The hotel staff was very helpful solving some issues with the owner of the premises.
The staff is exceptional at this hotel. It's a very small hotel (~20 rooms) and they made an effort to accommodate all requests. The breakfast (from 7-9AM on weekdays) was very good.
The check in was easy. The room is clean and quite. The matresses were good. The location is almost in the city centre, which makes exploration of the city very easy.
