Kashi has a lot of sightseeing sights, combination with historical sights (photo), old markets and great Kunlun mountains. For nature adventurers, Kalkuli lake tour is recommended (450 USD for two). You will meet red rock mountain range(photo), cobalt blue lake on the way and 7600 meter glacier mountains with lovely lake in the last (photo). The road is high quality paved highway, reaching 3 hours for 200 Km by car.

The old city of Kashgar has been fully renovated, but the old mud brick houses are still there. They are beautiful and full of character. The streets are very clean and the children seems to be very happy and playful. I can feel very safe walking around everywhere as security camera are everywhere. No cars inside the walled ancient city, but from one end to the other end is only a 45 minute slow walk. Plenty of restaurants with music and traditional dancing perfromances. There is even a bar street just inside the ancient city wall and a night market. Many small bazaar inside the city, but no big shopping malls. I had a very enjoyable 3 days stay in Kashgar and would recommended the city to anyone.

An interesting place; a melting pot of cultures; very different to mainstream China. Nice to wander through the streets and marvel at the mosque in the main square. Great to catch a local bus to the Sunday livestock market and see the mountains appear on the horizon and feel a connection to the old Silk Road. Being in the sensitive Xinjiang region meant a heavy police presence and a lot metal detectors when entering shops, banks and the hostel.
