-Rooms were very spacious although certain ones had a smell
-Breakfast was great with lots of variety, although mostly Chinese food
-Free self laundry - there were 3 washing machines and 2 dryers and detergent available for use
-The guy who checked me in could speak decent English (although I am able to speak Mandarin)
-About a 10 min taxi ride to the Yalong Bay Forest Park, roughly 18rmb
-About a 5-10 min walk to the public beach. There are loungers available for guests of Hualuxe and Holiday Inn. The beach was calm and water very clear. It does get more crowded in the afternoon so I chose to go very early morning.
-After traveling in China for a month and staying at various hotels in Shanghai and Hainan, I've found the best service always comes from the cleaning people. They are always friendly, polite, and helpful. Ironically, the reception staff could use a lesson from the cleaning staff on hospitality and customer service. Not sure if this is a status thing where the reception staff thinks they are "higher" status than the other staff so they give off an air of snootiness and arrogance which is very ironic. I shouldn't enjoy interacting with the cleaning staff more than the front desk. Service should be consistent throughout all the staff.
