The view from our balcony was wonderful. The breakfast was great, the best we had in Switzerland.

Murren is a cute town, not easy to get to but worth it for the scenic views and proximity to the Alps. Our weather was lousy but before the rain came, we enjoyed a pleasant hike down to Gimmelwald. The hotel is at the far end of town from the cable car and the funicular wasn't working so we had about a ten minute walk with lots of luggage. Although we arrived right at checkin, it took a few minutes before someone came to the desk to acknowledge us. The room was comfortable, nothing special other than the amazing view from the balcony looking over the valley and to the Alps beyond. Wish we had been able to enjoy it more. We had dinner in the restaurant the second night and enjoyed it. Hearty swiss fare in a cozy restaurant on a rainy evening hit the spot.
Family-run since 1886, the Hotel Eiger in the car-free resort of Mürren is located opposite the Mürren Train Station and offers a modern spa area with an indoor pool and panoramic mountain views.

Breakfast was good. What sets this hotel apart from many hotels is the staff which includes the owner, reception and wait staff. We had two very good dinners at the window looking at Eiger.

If you are planning to spend several days in the Berner Oberland, look no further than the Hotel Sonnenberg as the home base for your visit. Christoph goes above and beyond to make your visit as warm and comfortable as possible. We spent 4 nights at the Sonnenberg and enjoyed the peace and quiet up the valley above Mürren, away from most of the tourists. Your only sounds at night will be the nearby glacial stream and the cute local cattle and sheep herds. The hotel is located in the Blumental valley beneath the Schilthorn, filled with wildflowers and just a few B&Bs and Pensions. From the hotel, you have some of the best views across the valley of the 3 famous Swiss peaks, the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau.
Note that Mürren is a 30-minute hike down the valley - if you are only staying one night in the area, it’s probably not the place for you to make the most of your visit. It’s much better to stay at least 2 nights, and we enjoyed spending a full 4 nights and days. That gives you plenty of time to explore the whole Lauterbrunnen Valley (and have a better chance of good weather).
If you’re visiting to hike (or ski in the winter), there are some great trails right off the property. For a moderate downhill hike, do the North Face Trail from the hotel, breaking off to the Sprutz waterfall at Spielbodenalp. From there, head downhill into Gimmelwald and take the gondola back up to Mürren.
The continental breakfast is fresh with local meats, cheeses, and fruits and the coffee is better than most we had in Switzerland. We had two of our dinners at the hotel, and they were both delicious. Prices are comparable to what you’ll pay elsewhere in Mürren for authentic Swiss cuisine.
Christoph and his staff made every effort to ensure we had a comfortable stay, and he really tries to make you feel at home. We found ourselves soaking wet and cold after a hike and he was a call away to come pick us up from the Mürren train station.

We loved the apartment; it was perfect for our family of four. The adults and kids had their own large rooms with big closets (and TVs which we never turned on). The waterfall next to the hotel was beautiful to fall asleep to. The views from both balconies was stunning. There was a large dining table that we used when we cooked meals and for planning adventures, playing games, and writing in our journals.
We loved Thomas and Jeanette! She made homemade jam and had about 8 different types for the free breakfast. My kids fell in love with Swiss cheese at the breakfast (which was delicious).

Postcard-perfect setting and Christophe, the host, is exceptionally good at his job
We really enjoyed our stay in Murren. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go. The train station is right in town. There are many, many restaurants to choose from. There is a grocery store as well. However, Murren is promoted as a “car free” town but, on weekdays, the town is full of work trucks.

Not sure if it was because of the lack of snow, but we found Murren to be quite sleepy. Very few tourists. Appeared to be lots of vacancies in town. Many shops appeared to have shut down for the season. The skiing was actually quite good at elevation throughout the Jungfrau region in spite of the lack of natural snowfall and we of course appreciate the train system to travel throughout the region. The terrain in the region is more beginner/intermediate than we anticipated, though there are some nice steeps if you know where to look. Murren seems to be the more remote place to stay so if traveling to the various resorts via train will annoy you, consider staying in Wengen or Grindelwald or Lauterbrunnen.

Mürren was perfect.
Mürren was perfect. The town is quite nice and sits on the edge of a cliff overlooking the Lauterbrunnen Valley. We stayed in Grindelwald prior to staying in Mürren and we so glad we made the effort to stay here. Amazing!!!

Beautiful quiet village with easy access to all other locations in the Lauterbrunnen valley. There is not as much open in Murren in the period before the full winter season gets underway. Make sure you make a note of the Murren Bahn timetable.

The valley feels like Yosemite only bigger and more accessible. The town of Murren is at the top of the valley and mountains go up another few thousand feet from there. The whole place is unbelievably scenic.
A lot of things close down in early October, like the funicular train up the mountain..

Unbelievably beautiful location.
Unbelievably beautiful location.
Hikes and trip to Schilthorn were great.
Restaurant at Schilthorn had very good lunch buffet.
Pizza at Eiger Guest house and Eidelwies was good.
In October check the train and funicular may be out of service
Christoph’s warm hug and hospitality is exactly what you need after the hike up to the dormitories. Make no mistake, it is an uphill climb, make sure your heart can take it. If you have heavy bags, please take the last funicular up to Allmendhubel from Mürren before 5pm.
We had no regrets, Christophe received us right at the door and brought us warm snacks when we reached. Excellent service, dormitories were spacious and comfortable for our needs, you may leave your luggage there. Highly recommend!
Dan and Sandra were such gracious hosts! We were astounded by the beauty of the area. The hotel is perfectly situated, clean, modern and comfortable. The lobby was a lovely place to sit and relax with a class of wine or a cup of tea. Our dinner was the best meal we have had in Switzerland! Special thanks to Juraj, Vicktoria and Claudia in the front office. We lived every moment of our stay, thanks to you all.
Already looking forward to a return visit to ski!
Breakfast was wonderful
Staff was super friendly and helpful
The views from the room were fabulous!! Loved looking out the windows at the mountains
Great location for hiking to other villages and to the upper mountains
Loved the village
Wished the train to the village ran everyday - we were there on holidays and there were no trains to the village - made it tricky
This was our favorite part of our trip through Switzerland and Austria!
As the main accommodation on the family holiday trip, we thoroughly enjoyed the comforts of the apartment. The owners insisted on picking us from the train station to the chalet and viceversa. Very happy to choice it so right, in the first holidays in Switzerland. With the children we enjoyed the swimming pool offered by the Murren sports complex upon payment of the tourist tax.
Very nice hotel in the heart of Murren, easily reachable from the train station. The room was spotless and had a breathtaking view of the mountains. All personnel, nobody excluded, have been exceptionally kind to us. Breakfast was also very good and took place in the restaurant which has also a great view. I definitely recommend this hotel!
Location is beautiful - set about 30 minutes walk (uphill) from Mürren. Quiet. Stunning views. Exceptional hosts that will go out of their way to make you feel cared for. We were a family of 8 in total, and due to unforseen circumstances, 2 people couldn't join. They pushed back our reservation and welcomed us with kindness. Thank you!
We stayed for two nights and absolutely loved the location and the hospitality. They have the best deck/terrace in Murren with drop out views of the alps.
Breakfasts were excellent, drinks were superb and we even had dinner in the restaurant one evening which features a very impressive game menu.
Absolutely gorgeous views from this apartment in the heart of the city. There was lots of space for my family, and we liked the comfy beds. Murren was our favorite place in Switzerland and we would love to go back some day.
The location was unbelievable! The mountains in front of the hotel were awe-inspiring and beautiful. We liked Murren because it was a small walkable town with no cars. The staff was especially nice and very helpful.
Thomas and Jeannette are the best hosts we have even met. We enjoyed the homemade breakfast, dinner, amazing view of Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau from hotel room and northface trail hiking a lot.
Breakfast was good. What sets this hotel apart from many hotels is the staff which includes the owner, reception and wait staff. We had two very good dinners at the window looking at Eiger.
The room was simple but nice, and very clean. The bed and shower were comfortable and the staff super friendly.
The hotel is centrally located in Murren and offers a great base for hiking.
BEST location in Murren....across the street from the train station. Clean, quiet and comfortable. Surprising restaurant with large menu and great food.
