Now, we were there for work, and I managed to get sick, so I missed out on a few attractions, but Coona seems like a nice, friendly town. My family managed to get to see one of the observatories, and see some of the planets in real life, including Saturn's rings, so they were absolutely stoked. Apparently a new telescope will be operating there soon, with even better views.

Good sized town with lots of accommodation options.
Good sized town with lots of accommodation options. Good supermarket in town and options for fuel. Excellent bakery and other food options right in town. Great base for visits to the Warrumbungle NP and the Pilliga Scrub NP. A Dark Sky town with information easily obtained. Felt comfortable walking around town after business hours.
We'd read mixed reviews of the property, but everything about it was very positive during our five night stay. The unit was clean, the beds were comfortable and the recently renovated bathroom was terrific. And the staff were friendly and helpful, which is always a big plus. The only negative was the water, which tastes of mud, but that's a Coonabarabran issue, beyond the power of motel management to fix.
The room was a good size, the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was functional. Access and parking was very good. Although there are not many restaurants in town they are all an easy walk from the hotel and local food was very good. There is a large Woolworths shop within 500 meters from the hotel and the National Park is an easy drive away.
Despite the central location, The Imperial Hotel was very quiet at night. The rooms are minimalistic but comfortable - including the bed. The water pressure and shower head in the shower was good. The lounge area and kitchen was a nice touch - including a large fridge for storage.
The staff had no problem with us bringing a dog, we were asked not to leave our K9 unattended, a perfectly reasonable request. The hotel is ok. BBQ area available. The air conditioner works well and we had plenty of hot water. Enough open space to walk the dog and play fetch.
Nothing flash, but everything was absolutely fine. The cost of the hotel suited our budget for the night on the way to Canberra. The location was fine, did not hear any transport going by despite on main road in/out of town. Reasonably close to cafes/restaurants.
Clean and tidy older style motel right on the main road at Coonabarabran. Close to the shops, service station and a wonderful Chinese restaurant. The room itself is ordinary but perfectly serviceable for a night or two.
in its hey day, this motel would have been rather high class I think. it’s run down now, however we were in the pet friendly room, which was as expected but so great this hotel welcomes our furry family members.
I enjoyed my comfortable, quiet room, and the short walk into Coonabarabran for Dinner. I also enjoyed the opportunity to have Breakfast at Langley Cottage before re-joining the Newell Highway. Thank you.
This hotel was fabulous, from the friendly service, to the good sized rooms and the excellent bathrooms, with great rain forest shower heads and fluffy bath towels. I really liked my stay here.
A new bathroom and the bed was very comfortable. The room was very clean and well kept and was the right size for me and the wife who in some hotels we stayed in didn't bump into each other.
