Lovely old gold boom architecture, beautiful tree-lined streets (great in autumn).
Amazing bookshop.
The Mill (recently recycled industrial complex) is very well done with interesting and high quality specialist outlets (cheese, wine, smallgoods, etc.) and a great Viennese cafe (couldn't believe it!).

A pleasant country town with a lot of history.
A pleasant country town with a lot of history. Nice tree lined streets and old historic buildings. The road traffic through the town centre is a bit chaotic and too fast making it a bit tricky to cross at times. Some Nice coffee shops in town and the visitor information centre is worth a visit.

Castlemaine is a picturesque town, some good attractions from what I saw in the almost two days I was there. Would go back to the Five Flags Hotel again where I had dinner. The old prison is amazing, never seen anything like it.

Castlemaine is an interesting city with lots of accommodation and dining options. It is designed around tourism and there are lots of interesting shops and attractions. The surrounding areas are interesting too. We could have spend more time there. The town centre is easily walked.

with our accommation at Goldenray, there was no sitting room, no lounges or padded chairs, no wardrobes that were open, there was no proper kitchen, we could only walk from bedroom to bedroom and up the hallway when inside, we were aware that the owner was sharing the other part of the house, not quite what we expected.

The Northern Arts Hotel is a fascinating place built in the 1880s and filled with antique furniture and original art pieces by local artists. It's a live music venue and bar on Friday and Saturday nights. Our room was warm and comfortable with the heater and electric blankets already on upon arrival. The hosts were welcoming and helpful with local information. Breakfast was a generous continental style breakfast with freshly baked bread and home made preserves. We loved this accommodation and will use it again.
We, my family attended a funeral in Castlemaine, so we took 4 rooms, all slightly different room types, all were very comfortable, had good facilities, everyone was happy with their rooms.
Very neat and stylish home. Lovely bedding and toiletries. Great location being close to Botanical Gardens, The Mill & The Bridge Hotel. We would defiantly stay again.
