Burnie is a great place for shopping, restaurants and has lovely water views. A great stop off point if you are planning on exploring the Tarkine and the far North West Coast. A stop over in Smithton is Ideal to explore the Tarkine.

Great beaches plus good walks along beaches.
Great beaches plus good walks along beaches. A walking track is currently being put down over old railway line and extends along beach area. Great down town area with beach side bars and restaurants.
Burnie is an ideal base to explore Stanley and other seaside areas. Good base to go to Dove Lake and other wilderness areas. Dove Lake is 112km away

Great location for day trips along the Bass Highway, to Cradle Mountain and Leven Canyon. It was difficult to find street maps of Burnie and tourist attractions in Burnie, had to google a lot. Good shopping centre.

I went to Burnie for work.
I went to Burnie for work. That said, it offers reasonable facilities as a setting-off point for tourism destinations like Cradle Mountain and Stanley. The town itself is not really a tourist destination but is reasonably attractive to be in for other purposes. There are a few good places to eat, good supermarkets, and basic services offices including Service Tasmania and RACT.
The other thing to know about Burnie is that it is seriously hilly. This offers opportunities for exercise up and down the tracks and roads, and for spectacular views from some locations.
Burnie Airport is actually formally called Burnie-Wynyard Airport and is actually at Wynyard, an easy 20 min drive away. They have basic facilities at the airport including hire-car desks. The alternative airport is Devonport, which is a bit bigger and has a "regional" Qantas lounge, but it is 48km from Burnie, on a road that is double lane most of the way.

Accommodation was perfect, not only was it across the road from the beach, they had a swimming pool at our accommodation.
There is cinema in Burnie a museum and an art museum and a great promenade for beach front walking all of which we did.
It was perfect to take my teenage grand children to. The grandies loved Dave's noodlebox. However they had every popular teen food outlet.
We had the best of both the beach and the mountains.
Well located property with friendly staff. Room and facilities were clean and within our expectations. Staff delivered a continental breakfast to our room the night before which was very convenient and meant we had the flexibility to start our day early the next morning. A full cooked breakfast was also available, if prefered, in the hotel downstairs. Good soundproofing with little noise coming from the hotel downstairs.
Excellent location across the road from the surf club/beach also very close to the board walk across the road to see the penguins come in from the ocean.
Was right in town also, was great to use the hotels Parking and not having to use the paid parking out the front.
The lady cleaning the rooms was lovely and helpful swapping over towels when one of us was in the shower.
Close to shops etc
Very nice friendly reception staff and any staff we encountered in our stay whether at the bar and in the lifts were cheerful and engaging. Lovely close proximity to good restaurants. Iday Palace Indian was very good and so was the noodle shop a couple of doors up. This Hotel overlooks famous Bunny Island where black bunnies live happily on a traffic Island in the middle of town.
The accommodation was spacious, clean and comfortable. The hosts were welcoming, friendly, informative, and helpful. They've got a cork board with flyers for local attractions and food places, as well as books on Tasmania. Also lots of little decor touches that are nice. The breakfast choices were good. A short walk down the street sees you at Burnie Park, which is lovely.
This was the most amazing little B&B, so beautifully styled with the amazing landscapes of Tasmania. Great location, so close to town but also very quiet. The little details put in by the owners made our stay very memorable, from the helpful hints about the traffic in a text to the port left to enjoy, could not fault this beautifully presented space.
Cosy, modern cabin, with small kitchen, excellent shower, and comfy bed. It is on top of the hill overlooking Burnie, so if you want to head into town on foot (e.g. to watch the penguins) it is a very steep walk. The building houses two units, with a locked door between them, so you can hear the neighbour.
I was travelling for work, second time I have stayed. Great location for me. Great service from Laura one of the hosts. Very clean and has everything you could want. BIG spacious rooms and well equipped with amenities. Central to all the shops restaurants in Burnie and about 50m to the beach.
We loved the location. It is very easy to walk to get a variety of things to eat. The value of a 7 day stay in Burnie City Apartments absolutely could not be beat!!! There is a lot of space in apartment #2 to accommodate a family size of 4-6 people. Overall, it's just a great place to stay!
Very, very clean apartment with a lovely view and with everything you need and more. Laundry was clean with easy access. Location is perfect (within walking distance to town and the beach). Highly recommend this property if you seek accommodation in Burnie!
Well laid out apartment & comfortable, great view. Would recommend for anyone wanting to stay in Burnie. Was noisy in the morning as right beside traffic lights on the main drag, Tasmanian's get up very early. All in all very good, I would stay there again.
Very charming house with helpful, intelligent hosts. Close to the beach - we were able to walk down in the evening to see the penguins. We only had one night - next time I’ll stay more- would be a lovely place to use as a base to explore Northern Tasmania.
Easy to find, lots of parking.
The owners are fantastic and very helpful.
Lovely little home, very comfortable.
Check in is smooth.
The property is situated on top of a hill overlooking Burnie with just a short stroll.
Highly recommend.
Great location in Burnie, arms reach to the beach, and great seafood, also the Burnie Little Penguin tours, within walking distance, amazing, such a great stay, clean room, comfy beds, will definitely like to return again
