If you’re looking for a special place to stay in Sumba, Umarato Villa is a hidden gem. The villa has an incredible infinity pool that seems to stretch right into the horizon, making it the perfect spot to relax and take in the stunning views.
What makes Umarato Villa really stand out is that it offers this luxury at a price that won’t break the bank. Compared to other resorts in the area, it’s surprisingly affordable, yet you get the same, if not better, experience.
And the view? It’s worth a million dollars. Whether you’re by the pool, in the hammock, or just hanging out in the villa, you’re surrounded by the beauty of Sumba. The rolling hills, the wide-open sky, and the distant ocean all come together to create a truly unforgettable scene.
Featuring accommodation with a private pool, Morika Villa is set in Rua. This property offers access to a terrace, free private parking and free WiFi.

It was a nice break after traveling Sumba for a couple of weeks. Gated, with no beach access food can be delivered to your room. Beautifully quiet and comfortable. Staff lovely.

SUPER attentive staff. The housekeeper, jenny, made us breakfast, lunch and dinner. She even made to-go lunches that we could enjoy at the beach. Absolutely stunning views from the room and a well located house if you want to do some surfing. I loved that it allowed us to be more in touch with sumba’s cultural offering, I feel that the luxury villas are too secluded; this felt more like staying at a friends house. The house is also organised in a way that encourages you to meet other guests which is nice. The house owner, Julia, was very communicative via phone with recommendations and contact sharing (driver, surf lessons) and we met a few acquaintances of hers on the island. All the animals at the farm house make this an animal-lovers paradise.
For those on a budget, these cheap and cheerful hotels still have a lot to offer, with most offering WiFi and convenient locations. Popular with backpackers, many properties can be found in central locations and include comfortable rooms with private or shared bathrooms. You’ll also find a number of options which feature a 24-hour front desk and luggage storage.
