brilliant location in the pretty peaceful village, with a close walk to the local pub which serves great food and has nice large garden with playground for kids. The annex had all we needed and the hosts were lovely when we met them, and very helpful with all we needed. we'd definitely stay here again.

The room was clean and comfortable, lots of hot water and great water pressure, large towels which was great. The food at the pub was great and well priced and the staff super friendly. There are multiple stores including a super market and pharmacy within a 1min walk which was fantastic. The hotel is also very secure with multiple scan-in access points which was great.

Free parking is available and the historic market town of Alton and its rail station are just a 10-minute drive away. Watercress Line heritage railway can be reached after a 15-minute drive. The home of Gilbert White in the nearby village of Selborne is only 20 minutes away.

I like everything about The Poacher, but especially the people who worked there, and particularly the managers: Jayne and Jon. Terrific people who went out of their way to make my stay an enjoyable one. I stayed in four other inns during this trip, and my stay at The Poacher was, by far, the nicest.
