For us it was a short summer-end break of 5 nights rather than a one-night stay for Camino de Compostela (we did the camino earlier). But if you want to split the camino etape from St.Jean-Pied-de Porte to Roncevales through alternative route (not the Napoleon route), then we think this quiet village of Valcarlos is a very good stop. The mountain view is magnifique. We were lodged in Casa Karrikaburu, which I believe one of the 3 properties they manage. The building is newly renovated and in good quality. The owner and their staff in the restaurant are very sympathique, helpful and extremely friendly. Really enjoy our stay and will definitely return again when spending vacation in the region.
Hotel Roncesvalles offers free Wi-Fi and bright rooms with flat-screen TV.

We were soo tired from walking the Xamino we didn't get to do much except shower and go to bed. The room was large and really nice. The restaurant downstairs looked fantastic but we were too tired for our 8:30pm reservation. Breakfast was nice and alot to offer.

Although the apartment was in a house right by the road, sound-proofing (and heat-proofing) was assured by the triple glazing. The view from the main window was superb (across the Baztan valley to Gorramendi), with Lammergeier and other birds of prey circling, horses and cows providing extra entertainment closer to us! The bed and sofa were very comfortable, furniture and equipment good. The cake given as a 'welcome' (thank you!) was tasty and lasted us the whole time there! It was rather wet during the week we were there, but we found walks each day. Towns and villages nearby (Elizondo, Arizkun, Amaiur etc) are authentic (i.e. not distorted by tourism) and interesting. The apartment owners were friendly and helpful. It was a great week.

Alexandra was so lovely and welcoming and she has amazing English despite saying she was not good!! We met her cute dog Bambi and she offered us breakfast which we declined as we were leaving clearly the next morning . This location is amazing a few minutes walk from everything In valcarlos. Our room was comfy cosy and spotless and had a sink which was nice. The beds were so cosy after a long day of walking! 10/10 would recommend
Alejandra was a perfect host, very welcoming. The property was very clean especially the common areas. We had a great breakfast which Alejandra prepared, a little expensive but good. The location was beautiful and the decor is quirky and fun
The property was an apartment rather than just a room. It was in a very convenient location in the town. It was styled nicely, with pleasant outlook and it was quiet. The building in which the apartment was situated was very attractively styled.
This is a very special place due entirely to the amazing host Alejandra, who makes you feel very at home. She makes fabulous home cooked food and bread and is very kind. Super friendly dog too! Ideally placed directly on the Camino for a perfect stop if you want to break up the first stage on the Valcarlos route.
We really enjoyed our stay at etxeale in Valcarlos. The pensione was beautiful, it was spotlessly clean, our room and bed were comfortable, and Alejandra was an excellent cook, so dinner and breakfast were both delicious. Ten out of ten.
A very nice AirB&B type facility that appeared to have 4 separate rooms available for guests with a shared BR .
The facility gives off a very high end or high class impression and I would consider going there again ,especially if my wife was with me .
The owner was friendly ,as was her dog .
Location is great , on the Camino Path .
Great Stay! The location was just down the road from the supermarket.
It was very clean, warm and comfortable with peaceful rural views.
The lady who checked us in was very friendly.
The kitchen had everything we needed to cook.
Comfortable bed and good shower.
A perfect peaceful night on the Camino.
We would definitely stay again.
