Raya is a relatively new place run by its enthusiastic owners, who were very keen to try to ensure that you had a good stay. We were here for three nights and the other seven apartments were mostly occupied at the same time. The design of the building was unsual - one long single storey with dividers between each apartment which allowed for private patios for each. As well as a table and chairs, each apartment had a couple of unusual, comfortable, hanging hammock chairs, behind which was a pretty garden area. The bathroom, air conditioning and wifi all worked well and overall the bedrooms were very comfortable and quiet.
A decent breakfast was provided for you each morning, right outside your apartment which was very convenient.

Beautiful cabin. You can have complete privacy and feel surrounded by forest, but it's easy to reach and not far from all the main attractions of the area. Nice details, very nice and furnished kitchen. Easy communication with the owners before and during the stay.

Terrific reception and attention to all details by both Anja the manageress and Wendy the housekeeper. Kind, helpful & always very polite. The bungalow was a delight to live in for 4 days at the end of November 2023! We spent lovely days down on the coast, and up at the waterfalls. A delightfully restful and perfect part of our two week vacation. Highly recommended!!

For those on a budget, these cheap and cheerful hotels still have a lot to offer, with most offering WiFi and convenient locations. Popular with backpackers, many properties can be found in central locations and include comfortable rooms with private or shared bathrooms. You’ll also find a number of options which feature a 24-hour front desk and luggage storage.
I really liked that the room was made with a touch of love. It was cute and thought through what traveller needs - enough places to hang your clothes, comfortable bed and pillows with natural bed linen, bedside table with bedside lamp, a table and chair. Sounds like basics but very hard to find normally in the rooms for a lower budget. And I loved a hammock! So great to listen to the sound of waves and relax. The beach is just 100m away. And Vanessa was offering even pancakes! Perfect Sunday morning 🥰
Great uncrowded beach location, I don’t understand people saying it was far from the beach - it’s a 3 min walk.
Nice big room with good cooking facilities. Amazingly helpful lady helped us with everything, even my washing. They really wanted to please. Lovely quiet time in the pool, bird, Iguana and frog watching, when other guests weren’t around. Amazing value.
Owners were great, very approachable gave advice on things to do and where to go and also a location to see sloths.
Room is big and very clean, with comfortable bed and nice hot shower.
Owner makes great breakfast especially nice big waffles, so bring a big jar of Nutella.
There is a small outside seating area for each room where you can eat or sit and chill.

The Bungalow was very clean and beautiful furnished, we felt very comfortable and warm welcomed during our whole stay. We stayed for two nights and wish that we could have stayed longer. Really beautiful accommodation, very comfortable large bed, huge bedroom and bathroom, new quiet A/C, very clean room, nice swimming pool, tranquil setting. We felt very welcome at COCO beach Village. The owners are so kind and helpful! The room was big and very clean. AND THE LOCATION IS A HIDDEN GEM. Its perfect with the most beautiful sunsets! The area is nice, calm, safe and it’s a short walk to the amazing beach. When we’ll go to Costa Rica again we definitely will come back to this place!
The location was ideal, close to the beach, and with a good sized pool. Good cooking facilities, and very comfortable bed. Carlos was extremely helpful and always on hand. Very relaxed atmosphere. The beach at Matapalo is beautiful and mostly deserted, with a couple of good restaurants nearby and a supermarket within 10min walk.
