We had a vision for this place when we booked it and it delivered, and more! The only regret is we only stayed one night there as we lined up for a day-long hike in Sutjeska National Park 30 minutes up the road. Our host and her husband, who live upstairs, were so warm and wonderful, with help from their daughter Marina to ensure our arrival was smooth. Not much English with the two hosts but Google translate worked wonderfully and pulled us all together! They welcomed us with homemade rakija and shared vegetables from their garden as we soaked in the gorgeous green landscape. The apartment was spacious and excellent for us with all we needed, cooking breakfast before our hike. The town of Gacko is an easy 15 minute drive, with ATMs and a remarkably great fresh trout dinner at a café/restaurant attached to the new Kort supermarket on the edge of the town. We found the Sutjeska region to be a very special place, and Vikendica Vrba and the wonderful hosts a special part of that!

The acomodation is amazing, designed in vintage style, with a lot of quiet places in shadow of the trees for drinking coffe in the morning or having a beer or wine at night. The air is amazing since the location of the house is at 1076 meter elevation. The weekend house is located right across the lake so you can enjoy your own private beach. Gacko is surounded by the mountaines of Estern Herzegowina (Lebršnik, Volujak, Bjelašica, Zelengora) so you can arange hiking tours while youre here. You can also have small walks on the hills around the property. The weekend house is isolated in nature so you can have all the privacy and the city is only 4 kilometers away.

Excellent location, the hosts were very kind and helpful. They invited us for homemade dinner, (elder) juice and desserts, all of which were very delicious. The garden was beautiful, and was a great place for relaxation. The beds are comfortable, and the apartment was pleasantly cool in the summer.
