Just a 5-minute walk from Hakone Yumoto Train Station, Masutomi Ryokan features open-air hot spring baths, spacious guest rooms and free Wi-Fi. Guests can reserve the rooftop bath at an additional fee. On-site parking is available for free.

Location was very convenient; about a 7 minute walk from Hakone-Yumoto station (which is just a 15-minute railway ride from Odawara station, where most patrons come from). Note that the shopping area in the immediate vicinity closes promptly at around 5pm so get your shopping in before you turn into the ryokan. Food was delicious, very filling and well-presented. Dinner was served punctually at 6pm and breakfast at 8am. Staff were phenomenal, especially the main innkeeper - despite not knowing much English, she was so kind and accommodating. For baths, there were so many options for a one-night stay, but all of the ones I experienced were great, especially the private rooftop one (which costs extra, keep in mind); I imagine it might be a bit uncomfortable for taller people though, the bath on the roof is not very big. The room itself was great - spacious and the futons were so soft and comfortable. The ensuite bathroom was very clean and well-equipped.

Boasting a range of hot-spring baths with mountain views, in-room Japanese meals and massages, Yaeikan is 650 metres from Hakone-Yumoto Train Station. The softly lit rooms have a traditional decor and an LCD TV.

My stay was a really beautiful and authentic experience. The room I booked had a sauna in it which was perfect after a day travelling. Location is central and from my room I could hear the sound of waterfall which made my experience even better. Food was delicious and I was stuffed by the end. Since I was solo travelling I could only book the private onsen for 30 minutes which was enough time for me to start the day as much relaxed as I could be. They also have public onsens (female, male and family) which I couldn't really use because of tattoos but I knew that from before.

Situated atop a hill in Hakone, Gyokutei offers an authentic Japanese accommodation with an indoor hot spring bath. Hakoneyumoto Train Station is a leisurely 8-minute walk from the ryokan.

All rooms feature tatami (woven-straw) flooring and traditional futon bedding. Each are equipped with a flat-screen TV, a refrigerator and a private bathroom with a bath, shower and free toiletries. Extras include slippers, a hair dryer and yukata robes.

The staff, level of service that they provide, and the food are really what made this property special. Even though they didn’t speak a lot of English, they made us feel extremely comfortable and welcomed. We loved having some space as we kicked back after a days of running around and sightseeing in other cities. The sitting room with view of the garden was amazing. The in-room onsen tub was also a highlight. Even though the hotel onsen was lovely, it was so nice to have our own space to use, with the deep wooden tub. I would definitely recommend staying here if you want to experience a more traditional Japan. However if you don’t want to eat traditional Japanese food, I would choose a different property as I don’t think they would be able to accommodate many changes to their menu.
