I had a wonderful stay here. The host was incredibly kind, picking me up from the station and insisting on dropping me basically everywhere I wanted to travel to during my stay. I found the lounge area wonderfully relaxing, with a log burner stove the centrepiece. It was a great place to read and relax. As for the bed, I couldn't have slept better. Yes, it's going to be a little chilly if you visit during winter, but the room had a gas heater and huge hot water bottle nestled under a lovely duvet. Great value for money and a super stay.

The room was much bigger than I anticipated, and in a Japanese style (with tatami) so I was pleasantly surprised. The onsen in the hotel was an absolute delight. It had several baths with different temperatures, a lounge space, a sauna, a cold bath (which can be rare), and of course everything needed to wash yourself thoroughly before going into the baths. The hotel also provides body towels as well as face towels, so you don't need to bring yours. They have lockers to keep your items safe while bathing. There's free breakfast (little pieces of bread + some juice and coffee/tea) and a space on the first floor to relax after the onsen for example. It has wifi there as well.
Yamanouchi (Near Nakano)
A 3-minute walk from Yudanaka Station, Hotel Tsubakino features indoor and outdoor hot spring baths with a vista of snowy mountain peaks. The hotel offers Japanese-style rooms with free Wi-Fi.
From Tsubakino Hotel it is a 40-minute drive to Jigokudani Monkey Park, as well as to the Hokusai-kan Museum in Obuse Town.

It was an exceptional cultural experience in an authentic Japanese place. The hotel offers rooms in a traditional style, while we also enjoyed wearing national yukata dresses and taking onsen baths, which are included. We have heard a lot about excellent Japanese service and now we indeed experienced it. The personnel approaches each customer with personal touch and satisfies individual needs. A so nice and memorable stay at Tsubakino!

Just a 5-minute walk away from Yudanaka Station, Japanese-style hotel Ryokan Hakura is well equipped for disabled guests. It offers spacious rooms, hot spring baths and a rooftop cafe.

This ryokan is so charming, clean, the staff are very friendly and helpful, the onsen is fantastic. We loved that you can book the onsen for private use during the afternoons before 7pm. We hope to come back to Ryokan Hakura!

Rooms were really spacious and you have access to private onsen baths. We had dinner there (which needs to be reserved beforehand), which was truly amazing, we highly recommend having the meal along with the room!

Lithuania
Very friendly hosts. They speak very little English, but they did their best to make my stay comfortable. There is onsen public bath which is nice to relax after day of walking. I was even offered a free ride to snow monkey park! Hotel is a few minutes walk from Yudanaka station, which is very convenient if you want to visit monkey park or go to Nagano.

A 5-minute walk from Yudanaka Train Station, Tawaraya offers Japanese-style accommodations with free Wi-Fi and a flat-screen TV. Guests can relax in the indoor and outdoor hot-spring baths and wear colorful Japanese Yukata robes. Massages can be requested for an extra cost.

Very kind and helpfull owner drove me to the snow monkey park. Oyu was nice and hot, room tidy, and the whole Ryokan a a hidden gem. Traditional nostalgic atmosphere, old place but cozy.
