We really wanted to have a Ryokan experience in our travel to Japan and for that no better place than Kyoto, right? We chose Kyo no Yado Sangen Ninenzaka because of its location and we got the best view of Hōkan-ji Temple (Yasaka Pagoda). Shu was our host for our visit and from the first time we met him we knew that this experience would be great. He did everything possible to make our stay memorable, from giving us great Izakaya's recommendations to tips on Sake. We made the reservation to use the shared bathtub after our dinner and everything was neatly organized for us when we got back. The terrace has a beautiful view of the Yasaka Pagoda with several chairs for you to enjoy the stunning view and sunset without having to fight for a spot in the busy Ninenzaka. Upon our arrival we were offered the option of having a traditional Japanese breakfast for the following day which we did (and so should you), Shu himself cooks all the dishes and they are really tasty. It was our best breakfast during our whole trip in Japan. Vegetables with soy paste, rice, fresh cooked fish and a perfect seasoned miso soup were the dishes that we ate that day, make sure you opt for that if you are not leaving early in the morning you won't regret it. If we ever get back to Kyoto (we really want to) we will make sure to stay a day or two at Kyo no Yado Sangen Ninenzaka again.

Amazing location and incredibly accommodating hosts. Unlike other big hotels you really get a sense that everyone there cares and wants to ensure the enjoyment of your stay. We were travelling with a 10 month old and they ensured we had everything we needed. The location cannot be beat right in the heart of Gion, we found ourselves not worrying about the crowds since we were right in the centre of the action and could explore the area whenever we wanted.

It was very clean and well-kept. The private bath was amazing as well. The location was the best, close to many of the top Kyoto sights making travel very convenient and limiting our total travel time.
