I would highly recommend Johnson’s Homestay. It’s situated halfway between the Alleppey Beach and Town Centre making both highly accessible on foot or in an auto.
Johnson’s hospitality was amazing, he is very knowledgeable on the local area and traditions, we celebrated Onam together and Johnson kindly took us to go and see the natural bioluminescence at Alleppey beach at night.

This homestay right on the beach was clean and comfortable. The friendly owners cooked a great breakfast on their covered roof top kitchen and dining area overlooking the ocean. A quiet spot away from Alleppey's main beach yet within walking distance of it. Our host arranged our backwaters shikara boat ride which was fantastic. The catamaran cafe next door had great food, great ambience and sunsets! All we needed was right at the doorstep of our homestay in the best location in Alleppey.

Susan is an amazing host! She made sure we felt like a home away from home. From the moment we arrived, she went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. The property is beautifully maintained, with clean, and comfortable rooms. The location of the property was perfect and easily accessible to all the major tourist attractions and closer to the railway station. The house boasts a traditional charm, that added a classic delightful touch.
One of the highlights of our stay was food. We had the best home-made delicacies of Kerala, especially the non-vegetarian dishes. Coming from outside Kerala, we didn’t have any itinerary, and Susan helped us out in planning our day and arranging the commute as well which was a great relief and worked out perfectly for us. She also gave us some local shopping tips and suggested beautiful, lesser-known places which we would have missed otherwise.
We were a family of 9 and she was very kind to attend to all our needs throughout our stay. She was thoughtful to even pack us food for our return journey. Her warm hospitality and attention to detail made us feel home. She and her team truly made our trip memorable, and we are incredibly grateful for her kindness and support. You don’t have to think twice before booking your stay here!

I had a wonderful stay . The owners are amazing; they arranged a lovely boat trip with a local family, which included breakfast and lunch at a local family’s home ( a wonderful experience). They also arranged a lovely stay at their beach villa. The breakfast was exceptional and included keralan food, and the rooms are beautiful. I loved watching the fireflies from the balcony in the evening. The Homestay is very central and I suggest a trip on the government ferries.
Tried to accommodate needs of western family - one not spicy dish especially for us at dinner. Good value - one of the cheapest house boats we found and was still good. Provided a little more a/c than was promised. Fairly clean. A good trip. Optional extras like short canoe trip to village available. Helped with onward plans - kayaking.
Tharas houseboat is very unique and traditional enriched with cleanliness , the staff were very helpful. The food was amazing we could try authentic kerala style food they served lunch on plantine leaf that was delicious, especially their pearlspot fry decorated with onion , carrot , lemon was suberb , we have seen backwater village area . When you come in Kerala you should take this place you will be definitely happy .

We had a very good stay at Mayflower villa. The family room was spacious. Cleanliness was top notch. The host, Susan was extremely caring and guided us well for sightseeing and also took special care of our kids meals. We had our meals there and they were yummy authentic Kerala dishes. Definitely recommend staying at Mayflower Villa.

Very good for us. Their village canoe cruise was amazing. Chilling on the backwaters under the moonlight, and dinner was great also. Everyone should do this tour. Johnson sir is an excellent host. Amazing garden in the host premises as well.
