Breakfast was fantastic- came here twice and the second time was provided a banquet breakfast. Host was welcoming and gave us a tour of Ijen for good price and showed us the best sunrise spots.

Agus is one of the best hosts I’ve ever met. We had many great conversations and he taught us so much about his village! He helped us arrange a tour to Mt. Ijen as well. The guesthouse was clean and comfortable! Couldn’t have asked for a better stay.

The homestay is 5-10 min by Grab from the train station in Banyuwangi. It's only slightly expensive than the guesthouse right next to the train, but far far better. The man running singlehandedly the place (not the owner) is amazing - prepares your breakfast (included in price, served on the terrace of each room or packs it up to go, if you are leaving early), cleans, gives advice if you ask. Speaks decent English. The place is spotless clean, each room with a sitting area in the front overlooking a beautiful jungly garden with flowers (I saw a hummingbird/colibri there) and even mango and rambutan trees. It's a little oasis. The room feels more like a hotel, tastefully decorated and new-looking. Hot shower and good A/C. There is a warung 50m down the street, though we ended up eating in town. If you are going to Iljen on your own and can ride, rent a bike from the homestay. But reserve, there is only one. It's new and comfy for 2 people, same price as the rentals near train station, but with the convenience of having it at your door.
