The proprietors Serge and Peter have created a slice of heaven and have perfected the art of being the most gracious down to earth hosts. They have thought of absolutely everything to make Domaine des Monges completely luxurious yet utterly comfortable and unpretentious. The location can’t be rivalled on the banks of the tranquil Dordogne river, a short drive to a number of quaint villages and St. Emilion. There are countless lovely spots to sit on the expansive lawn, under a gazebo or gathered around one of the many tables in lovely corners of the immaculate property. We loved walking on the river path in either direction. It was also lots of fun watching the hens in their two story henhouse living their best life! (Humans are not the only ones who are pampered by luxurious accommodation at Domaine sea Monges!) There is a feeling of calm in the lovely common areas inside (where there are plenty of lovely spots to sit and have a cup of tea), but our room was so comfortable and well appointed we were happy to hang out in it, surrounded by stunning antiques, gorgeous decorative touches, and fresh flowers on the mantle. Our bed was perfect (the kind of bed that you sink into slightly but is firm) with crisp highest quality linens. We can’t remember sleeping so well on holiday! The best was waking up each morning to a hot shower, wrapping up in one of the huge fluffy towels and listening to peaceful birdsong outside our window. And the breakfast! Fresh bread, chocolatines, croissants (the best baked goods I’ve had yet in France), fruit salad, yogurt, homemade jam, granola, honey from the beehives on the property and each day a delicious egg dish prepared by Serge or Peter made from the eggs laid by the obviously happy hens in their 2 story hen house! Domaine des Monges is simply perfect, a luxurious yet unpretentious retreat with the most lovely energy. We know we will be back again!
