This is a wonderful place for some quiet days in the Aberdeenshire countryside. Sheep and birds abound. Comfortable, charming and clean apartments in a recently converted former barn, with nice and responsive hosts. A car is needed to get there and to go around, great sights in Stonehaven/Dunottar, St. Cyrus, and Glenesk are within easy reach.

This is not a modern convenient hotel but it is an adventure, an overnight experience. The castle was derelict when the hosts took it on and they have done a remarkable job, but it is still work in progress, not surprising when large parts of the structure date back to 1370. Our room was charming with a sturdy four poster bed. Internet was fine. The grand tour through the house by Robbie is a must, particularly the great hall is fascinating. The breakfast was very complete.

We were really impressed by the tour of the castle by the host/owner . It was really interesting and informative . The nature of the building itself was unique with a great location on the edge of the beach.
