Staying at Burg Hermannstein was an unforgettable experience! This 14th-century castle, lovingly restored by the wonderful owners, Betty and Lee, truly feels like stepping back in time. We stayed in the Rittersaal, which is located in the oldest part of the castle's tower (not the main building). Be prepared for the climb—around 80 stairs—but once you reach the top, you’re rewarded with a private, spacious tower all to yourself. It’s perfect for those looking for an authentic medieval experience, complete with a grand fireplace where you can make a fire to warm up the chilly stone walls. It really gives you a feel for what life in a medieval castle was like! The stay includes a simple yet satisfying breakfast with eggs, fresh bread and jam, and a selection of fresh fruit—an ideal way to start the day before exploring the grounds. And there’s plenty to explore! Beyond the main rooms, the castle has rooms filled with fascinating antiquities, like old weapons, furniture, and even a Kerker (dungeon). It’s an incredible treat for history buffs or anyone with a love of old-world charm. This is not a typical hotel stay. With just four rooms to rent, plus the owners' apartment, it feels more like you’re living in a historical monument. You’ll need to leave your room to access the bathroom unless you are staying in the Rittersaal, but that’s part of the experience of staying in an authentic castle setting. And as a bonus, six friendly resident cats roam freely, adding a cozy touch to the grand surroundings. We absolutely loved our time here and can’t wait to return to see the continued renovations. Betty and Lee are bringing this castle back to life, and we’re grateful to have been part of it, even for a short time. If you’re looking for a unique, rustic stay that lets you step directly into history, Burg Hermannstein is a must-visit.

Charming owners Lee and Betty, exceptionally friendly service and incredible location in an actual castle! They showed us around and never got tired of answering all of our many questions.
Another feature we loved is that Lee and Betty share Burg Hermannstein with six adorable and very friendly cats! We loved that one of them slept in our room and came in the bed for a cuddle, but they also accept a closed door if you don't want feline company.
We booked this stay as a birthday surprise for my sister and her American partner who stayed in the "Rittersaal". Everything exceeded our expectations.
We absolutely loved Burg Hermannstein and the King's room! The owners did an amazing job turning it into a cozy and unique room while preserving the original castle features like the walls and ceilings.
Also, we were delighted it comes with a very modern bathroom, even if is not en suite.
Please note that this is a private home and not a hotel. So if you're not for climbing stairs or walking through two rooms to get to the bathroom, this location might not be the one for you.
However, if you love unique and special places full of history, then you will definitely love this one and appreciate how Lee and Betty are going out of their way to make guests feel welcome.

For the price it is good, especially when travelling. Bed’s were clean, a little bit squeaky, not the most comfortable but ok. Also very useful is the little kitchen in the room and the nice big smart-tv. Bathroom needs some renovation, pretty outdated but it was clean. Also to open the room, you receive a pincode, very useful when arriving late but it does require some patience to make it work.

Very clean, close but not in the city centre so quiet. Good breakfast in the morning - fresh items being brought out continuously. Nice little courtyard available for an evening drink. Was able to park my bicycle in a side room (unused breakfast room with tables and chairs!) along with many others in the hotel. Fridge with a range of drinks available for purchase in the entrance hall.
