Breakfast was really great, welcome was also great. Overall, really nice. Beds were super comfortable. Location great, but would advise to guarantee an evening meal, as it's quite a treck to the nearest town. Common areas encourage mingling with fellow guests in a relaxing manner.

Exquisite location, big rooms and bathroom. Amazing breakfast (croissants are to die for!), and lots to do at the house (board games, etc.). To top it off, Thomas who was managing the place was ever helpful and great! Highly, highly recommended place!

When we arrived, we were lucky enough to meet Pi, and she gave us excellent recommendations for the island (ate lunch at Ardbeg and it was incredible as she said it would be). She was so sweet and helpful. We loved the view! It's in a beautiful area, right on the ocean. We loved that there was plenty of space, and that the house was charming. Had everything we needed to cook meals. We were also happy to have Netflix to watch shows at night. And we were thrilled to have a washer and dryer so we could clean our clothes.

Lovely, small and scenic, set around a beautiful bay and also with a ferry terminal (note, this was main reason I selected Port Ellen for the destination of my final 3 nights on Islay; unfortunately, just before the trip, CalMac had announced that all ferry trips to/from Port Ellen would be diverted for the period from early Sept through mid-November to Port Askaig (on the eastern side of Islay). Since traveling that direction via bus can have a more difficult bus schedule to coordinate with the early ferry (for connecting at Kennacraig on the mainland to bus to Glasgow), so I ended up booking a Loganair flight back to Glasgow for 9/28 to ensure getting there in time for my early a.m. long-haul journey GLA/AMS - AMS/SFO on 9/29.
In general the town has wonderful dining options, scenic walks, both a small Co-Op and a Spar as grocery options, fantastic aged stone buildings, and the paved whisky trail at the far end of town to get to Laphroaig, Lagavulin and Ardbeg on foot or bicycle, and if you have the energy (and often good rain-gear), you can keep going a few miles further on foot to the historic Kildalton Cross and Chapel.
And I would be remiss to not mention the lovely flock of swans at the north end of White Hart Beach!!!

The food at the Islay Hotel was superb and very reasonably priced. The service was excellent too. We also ate at the Seasalt bistro and this was nice too, slightly more expensive than the Islay Hotel.
If you arrive on a Monday like we did you may not be able to get into the Islay hotel unless you have booked in advance and the Seasalt is closed Mondays. We got a Chinese takeaway from Ellen's Wok - the food was good but we found the rice a bit stodgy.
The other thing was for 2 meals we ended up with 4 plastic take away boxes with lids and food remnants that we couldn't recycle. Apparently there is no food recycling on Islay at the moment which means that everything goes to landfill. However this should change in the near future. The litter bins in the street were full of everybody else's take away meals too!
My recommendation for food is to book in advance to avoid disappointment!

Port Ellen isa very pretty and friendly village. There are not many dining out options available though. What's there is tasty. We had trouble with our ferry being cancelled, so would recommend not to make tight connections

Port Ellen is a wonderful place. A great beach.
Port Ellen is a wonderful place. A great beach. Just the right number of places to eat. It has a smashing traditional Pub called The Ardview where visitors can meet `The Locals` all in all a first class base to visit the rest of Islay.

Port Ellen is a tiny village on the south of Islay with a mainland ferry port. However, sometimes the ferry is cancelled so be prepared to travel back up to the north of the island if this happens. The village is extremely picturesque but if you like hustle and bustle Bowmore is more touristy. However there are 3 main distilleries within a few miles and the beaches are superb. If going remember to take clothes for all seasons as in Scotland the weather can change in seconds, from a blisteringly hot day to freezing and wind-buffed. But scenery is out of this world.
Ideal location to explore Islay in beautiful Port Ellen. The Lodge is perfectly positioned opposite the beach and harbour with plenty of space to park outside. The decor is bright and stylish with a great kitchen you are free to use as a guest. Our bed room was comfortable and ideal for our trip and we extended our stay for another night. The continental breakfast is really good too ! One special mention is for Susan the house keeper who keeps The Lodge to an immaculate standard and made us most welcome.
Lovely place to stay on Islay! We booked a small room but it was super cozy and had everything we needed. The owner of the property is a gem and her staff is super friendly and nice and accommodating! the daily breakfast was delicious and lots of options with fresh fruit and they even had gluten free toast!! There was a really nice space for gathering on the 2nd floor as well - we took our breakfast in there on the last day and had a great view! We would definitely stay here again - I highly recommend!!
We stayed on the ground floor, amazing location in Port Ellen, 2 mins from shop, pubs, ferry and beach is opposite. Basic accommodation however had everything we needed comfy twin beds, table and chairs, TV, kettle, plates, cutlery and small fridge which was amazing! Hosts very lovely , friendly and accommodating. We will definitely stay here again. Perfect location for staying on Islay with 3 distilleries within 4 miles.
The Cala Sith is ideally situated right next to the ferry terminal in Port Ellen. The room was ideal for me and was very clean and comfortable with a lovely en suite bathroom with shower.
Continental breakfast is available and was managed by AJ who went out of her way to make me feel welcome and was the perfect host.
Niall was so welcoming and accomodating and the room is exactly as described with a gorgeous view of the beach and a stones throw from a restaurant, takeaway, pub, and post office! It is a perfect location to explore Islay and just around the corner from the start of the 3 distilleries walk.
Very clean, comfortable, spacious. Kind touches such as coffee, tea, biscotti in the room. Liquid soap smelled wonderful. Fantastic location, ten minutes from the ferry, easy walking to the Three Distilleries Path. On the same street as the Islay bus route. Great breakfast.
The location was perfect. It's only one block to the "town square" and there is a grassy area with picnic tables across the street from the hotel. It worked out well because we ate carry-out asian food one night and got a couple of beers from the bar. A perfect set up!
Fantastic property. Great location. Comfortable beds. Loved the shower too. Great breakfast too. Bring your toiletries if you are particular about them. Walking distance to Islay Hotel and Sea Salt restaurant. Book the restaurants in advance due to Covid restrictions.
I was moved to this Hotel as the other one I had booked was taken over - everything about the hotel exceeded my expectations from the decor of the whole place, size of the room, helpfulness and friendliness of the staff and outstanding food!
Excellent stay here. The owner provided a wonderful welcome pack which was really appreciated after a very long journey. Everything you needed was provided, a short walk to Port Ellen, lovely clean and peaceful. Would definitely recommend.
Very comfortable rooms with fine views, good restaurant and access to plenty of lovely lounges for a drink or a quiet read. Sadly many services limited due to COVID, but still a luxurious spot for a few days. Try the house gin!
Central spot along the main road in Port Ellen. Owner was helpful in messaging early to recommend making early reservations for food/distilleries as most places were booked solid for dinner.
Good location in Port Ellen with other facilities (eg restaurants and pubs) in walking distance. Our room was spacious and comfortable and the breakfast very generous and nicely served.
Well-equipped kitchen with everything needed for cooking and cleaning. The property is well situated with a quick drive to Port Ellen and many of the distilleries on Islay.
Top Location on Islay. Near the Water, calm, everything possible on Foot (shopping, restaurant), even Laphraoig destillery (or Ardeg and Lagavulin in some time)
