Small town surrounded by the mountains. It is perfect for bikers. Long rides including perfect uphills and mountains as well. The lake is just perfect for sailing, swimming, boating, windsurfing. Hiking is also a great possibility. Garda lake has a lot to offer. The water is colder on the norther side and warmer on the souther part.

We did not really explore Gargnano at all.
We did not really explore Gargnano at all. All we did in this town outside our apartment was going to a nearby bar/restaurant for a quick coffee in the morning.
It would be unfair for us to judge Gargnano based on our experience.

We stayed in Lago di Garda for a week (one day at a hotel,...
We stayed in Lago di Garda for a week (one day at a hotel, the rest at a friend's villa), and perhaps this review is somewhat negative because we were just coming from a 2-week vacation in Croatia, but Lago di Garda is a bit over-rated.
Based on the unreliable local transportation system, one quickly gets the impression that people (middle-income or lower) without a car are not welcome.
The scenery of this huge lake surrounded by mountains is very impressive and beautiful, however we were very turned off by the fact that there are snakes in the lake! To be fair, on the very populated beaches, there were none to be seen but as soon as you find yourself a less-populated area, you would see snakes swimming around. What we also did not like is that access to the lake is often obstructed due to the way construction was allowed to take place.
From a budget perspective, the choice of restaurants is geared more towards the higher-end, which reflects the kind of people you see vacationing here. What I found annoying were the opening/closing times of shops and restaurants. Expect to have difficulty in finding a place to eat in case you want dinner before 7pm and watch out for automatic service charges.
Based on observation, most locals are rather old and most foreigners are either German tourists or Germans who have bought property here.
My impression was that this is the perfect location for people of a certain age wanting peace and quite in a sunny destination or couples wanting a secluded getaway.
My brief rating would be "beautiful but boring"

Its a place where you just walk around looking at the lovely structures of the houses, the little delicatessen , the small but very modern and classy clothes shops , stop for lunch by the small port and just take in the atmosphere. Tip though, always book a restaurant for dinner on Sundays.

An overcrowded and a bit overhyped place.
An overcrowded and a bit overhyped place. The traffic is a horror show and you will be glad leaving the place in one piece.
In our opinion there are other places with simular views that are better, like Istria, Croatia. (East coast)

The property was beautifully maintained and our apartment...
The property was beautifully maintained and our apartment had great shared space. Swimming pool was great to laze in whilst enjoying the view of the mountain in the background. Lovely touch on the complimentary prosecco! The receptionist and owner were very helpful and quick to respond to our requests and queries. Location is a quieter side of Lake Garda catered towards family and older folks compared to other parts.
Only negative part is the apartment itself did not have bin liners for all the bins and washing detergent & sponge for the kitchen. Additionally the cleaning could be improved (E.g. floors were generally slippery, curtains needs some washing, one of the bed linen had what looked like dust and garden cuttings on it which we didn't uncover until the last night since it was at the end of the bed and underneath the blankets)
Situated along Lago di Garda this hotel has stunning views, if your room is situated on lakeside. The young woman at the reception was very friendly and sweet and showed us all the way to our room. The corridors with rooms are light as they feature a lot of windows. The room was clean and nice. Breakfast was extensive at the large indoor breakfast room. Although we didn't have dinner here, the hotel does have a restaurant along the lake, just across the road. We would return here and recommend the place.
We spent in the hotel 4 nights but we treated this place as a 'base-camp' (we were leaving hotel after breakfast and coming back in the evening just to take a shower and sleep) - under such conditions it was quite acceptable place. Breakfasts were nice BUT only if you likes sweats ...like me ;-) The view on the Garda lake from the window and so that cool breeze in the night coming from it was the best part of the whole stay :-) The staff was very helpful and in addition each day our room was cleaned.
Clean are very clean and the hotel is very new. They dont skip the details as providing cosmetics, slippers for the beach and extra slippers for the spa and room. Capsule coffee and water daily refreshed. Breakfast is above expectations compared to other boutique hotels
in Italy, dont expect a continental breakfast but at least they have salty options( scrambled eggs etc) and home made bakery products and wide selection of yogurt and cereals which is not so common in Italy :)
Exceptionaly cosy place in the middle of National Park.
Owners were superfriendly and helpful from the begining.
Before our arrival we receive even direct instructions how to reach the place without navigation.
Panoramic view over the hills and mountains from balcony of our room was truly great.
Its a one of those places with soul. Our rooms had beatiful wooden furniture which is unparalleled in modern hotels.
PS. We loved the tarta on breakfast!
There was no breakfast included as part of our stay. The location was perfect for exploring the must-see parts of Lake Garda. We would have also had a perfect view of Lake Garda from our apartment, if it was not for the fog that we could not escape for much of our stay.
The hostess was incredibly nice and accommodating. She kept making sure we were okay, checked in on us on a daily basis, recommended places to go to, etc.
The hosts were very accommodating and picked me up from the bus stop when I was having issues with transportation. The apartment itself is very spacious and has a great view. There's also a washing machine available which was a big perk. If you're looking for a quaint, quiet village, Formaga is perfect for you. We enjoyed the peace and quiet as well as the opportunity to easily walk/hike to nearby villages.
We stayed at Lefay hotel as part of our honeymoon, from the moment we stepped food in the building we were welcomed by the team there. The whole stay the staff where professional and attentive and there was no stone unturned to ensure we felt happy with our time there.
We felt relaxed and had time to unwind during our time at Lefay and would absolutly go back in a heartbeat.
It's a beautiful location a bit away from the buzz of lake Garda. All the products at the house are locally produced by Andrea and they all taste great!. He and Veronica are very kind hosts that are always happy to help with any question. The price for the rooms is absoluetly worth the money, especially because everything has been recently renovated, Will certainly come back!
The family who ran the place us feel like we were more than just guests. Breakfast was very good and we were assisted with everything. Hard to find a large bed in most hotels but we had a nice queen bed. They view we had was incredible and we were walking distance from many good restaurants.
We liked EVERYTHING: from the location through the service until the food and the private beach! One of the best hotel in Italy I have ever stayed. It is an excellent location for bikers with addition service for the bike (locker, electric charger, pump etc.)
A significant part of the impression of visiting Lake Garda was left by our visit to this cozy hotel! This place is very cozy, thanks to a wonderful family that every guest is treated like an old friend! Very responsive and welcoming! I recommend!
Beautiful location above lake Garda, close to the village. Exceptionally kind and helpful owners. The apartment is like a nice museum. Natural air conditioning is through the stream flowing in front of the window of the bedroom.
The staff that welcomed us was warm and funny, the room met our expectations and it was super clean.
On top of that, the hotel has a hidden terrace with an amazing view of the lake. Could not expect more!

Best breakfast ever
Max & Francesca have provided a wonderful experience for guests. Attention to detail is seen everywhere. Operating at the level, or above that, of a small luxury hotel.
The room was gorgeous! New, nicely furnished, with amazing views! The breakfast was also very good and also with great views. The hotel is next to the street, easily accessible. The room and an AC.
Beautiful view of Lake Garda. Everything was very clean. That staff did everything to ensure we had the best stay. Beautiful boardwalk with a variety of restaurants within walking.
The view is to die for. The ambience of the hotel. The staff were excellent in every way possible. Food is great at the restaurants and huge breakfast with excellent variety.
