The breakfast in the morning was excellent! This was one of our favorite meals from our entire trip in Hokkaido. We also did dinner one of the nights and enjoyed it with some lovely local wine. The room had a great view from both the bedroom and the hot tub. We were very grateful for the shuttle to and from the hotel to Otaru Station since you do need some way to get into town. We let the hotel know in advance when we wanted to be picked up/dropped off. The shuttle is clearly labeled with the hotel name, was always a little early, and had our name listed to ensure they picked up all the guests. We were glad to have the convenience of some vending machines with drinks, beer/sake, and snack/ramen. Thanks so much for a wonderful time!

Breakfast was really great. There were various things and they were good taste also. The location was closed to many attractive places in Otaru. We just walked around there to find some restuarants. Really comfortable for my family...

This was a lovely town to visit! It's closer to Sapporo than I realized, so the train ride from there was very quick. We went to a few historical sites, the aquarium, shrines, and shopping. There was a lot of great food around the shopping and we picked up things as we went. Our best meal was the ramen and gyoza at Ramen Tokaiya! A small ramen shop with one guy manning the whole place. We made sure to go a little early so there was very little wait.

I really liked Otaru, even though it is small and doesn’t have too much to see. It’s really just the main shopping strip and the canal. There are a few museums and some spots in the mountains (there seems to be a ropeway that is poorly advertised but would have been perfect) but that’s about it.
It’s really quite a charming place. The streetscape and history are both fascinating, and the food great - especially ankake yakisoba and kaisendon. I do think it would be an absolutely perfect place to end a trip and unwind for a few days before returning to reality.

A lovely old port town with many original buildings being repurposed for tourism - dining and glass making.
Compact size makes walking around easy but in winter could be snow bound.
Lots of great places to explore old Japanese culture and dining and drinking experiences.
Lots of fresh seafood...many diners around the actual fish market shop with all types of Japanese cuisine... tempura...sakitori...sushi..shashimi...hotpot ...ramen etc..and absolutely amazing bakeries / patisseries and local ice cream and dairy products. Even wineries have opened up.
And even more if you are a winter sports person with ski resorts on the town outskirts...seaon just closed when we were here.
All this a simple train ride from Sapporo Airport -- ok maybe an 2 hour ride...not bad if straight off the plane from Sydney or Seoul or Tokyo into the Sapporo airport.

After coming from the big city of Sapporo we loved the smaller town of Otaru. Planned on just doing a day trip but changed to stay overnight. Wish we had taken a day off Sapporo and added it to Otaru. No lights on the canal as expected but we still loved Otaru. Easy to walk to everything and a lot to enjoy.

We went during winter.
We went during winter. It is a small quiet town and most shops close around 5-6pm. So good to settle dinner early. As a small and quiet town, the place is generally quiet and peaceful after dusk. There is nothing to do after dusk and travelers can take a stroll down the Otaru canal and enjoy the night view.

Give the canal a pass, especially if you have been to Europe. Very underwhelming. Take the local train one stop to Shioya and hike the Shioya Maru-yama. It is about a 6km round trip hike up a local mountain with great views. Take the same train to Yoichi to tour the Nikka Whiskey Distillery and sample great whiskeys in the restaurant after the tour (book reservation for tour ahead of time and remember everything shuts down around 16:00).
We are avid travellers and as we live in the tropics, we often travel during winter to experience the snow. It was not our first visit to Otaru and we are experienced driving in snow. As the road to the property is a steep slope, with changes in temperature, the melted snow made the road too slippery to drive up. When I walked up, I slipped and fell and had to slide down to the bottom of the slope. We also saw a taxi alight passengers at the bottom of the slope, without luggage, it is possible to slowly climb.
Room is clean and comfortable.
Price is so good for this area.
There are many restaurants and family mart around this area. Walking to Otaru station by15 min or you can take bus from train station and walk 5 min.
Anyway, the hard thing is the walking way to the hotel is cover by snow in winter time. And you have to carry your luggages climb up on the stair with snow to the destination. This is the most hardest part but others thing is good.
There is something very special about this place. It brought me so much peace. Two kind gentlemen run the hotel. It was quiet when I stayed, not many guests. I wished I’d booked another night. Hearing the ocean lap against the shore, clean rooms and everything felt new. I feel lucky to have experienced this place. I went by car. Otaru is close but if you don’t like being in the heart of a city, this place is a gem!
Convenient location close to the railway station in the centre of Otaru. Easy walking distance to the harbour and canals. Very clean with comfortable bedding. The staff were all professional and friendly. The front office manager,Mr Jongshin was exceptionally helpful and made our stay memorable. We will definitely stay here again.
We stayed in a room with twin bed, it was more spacious than I thought. A set of table and chair, bedside lights and amenities- there were everything we need. Also we appreciated the large communal area and free coffee.
We didn't use it but you will get access to Onsen at another hotel nearby.
The hotel fitout and aesthetic is great, the staff are friendly and speak really good English, the food is great, and the hotel bar is a good place to relax for a whiskey or two. The hotel is close to everything you want to see in Otaru - the canal and the main shopping strip.
The breakfast was excellent. A good variety of food selections. The room was clean and comfortable with an ocean view. The public bath was a great feature. The hotel is close to the canal and Sakaimachi Hondori Street. It's a 10-minute walk from the train station.
The hotel is facing the famous Otaru Canal, which has different views in day and night time. Moreover, it is just 5 minutes on foot from the most popular attractions in Otaru. The overall experience with the hotel is very good in general. Highly recommended.
The facility is very good, nice room, good public area, public bath etc, it can easily charge more especially in a tourist town like Otaru. With the charge at a much lower rate than other hotels nearby, it was a very good bargain.
The place was super spacious - we were a party of 3 but could have easily fit 6+. Everything in the place seemed very new and clean! Check-in was super easy and it was very close to Otaru Station.
The space of the room. It's not easy to find hotel rooms this big in Japan. I was surprised by the size and the beautiful view from the room to the sea.
