by coincidence we travelled during Ramadan and booked room with half board. The iftar meal was the highlight of our visit to Tunisia. Excellent excellent choice of items on buffet, very friendly staff in the dining hall and the cook had the biggest smile in all of Tunisia, lovely reception staff (well versed in english, arabic and french). Mariott was brilliant overall

You must head to the Medina.
You must head to the Medina. It is a maze of narrow streets and packed with shoppers. The stroll in there alone is an experience.
Expect to be pestered a little but just walk on if you don't want to be invited into the little shops to buy something. It's a fun experience.
Try a Brik. It's a fried doughnut which is just delicious and cheap.
The people are generally incredibly friendly and curious but be aware of the odd gentlemen who claims to work night security at your hotel and starts to accompany you around the medina. This happened to me 3 times by 3 different men. They have the same story.

Tunis is a great place to experience Arab culture tempered by French finesse. It is easy to get around the city on foot, tram or taxi. Lots to see and do. It is also not far from other amenities and historic sites.

The medina is an interesting way of spending a couple of hours with a nice cafe above where you can look over Tunis. Taxis are the best way to travel around and there are plenty. Lots of places to eat. I think as a tourist in Tunis you just need to beware of
being ripped off by being over charged at almost every point. Other than that it’s a very interesting place to visit and actually very cheap!!

Tunis can be a gem for a visit in itself and a great starting point for day-trips to other destinations within easy reach. Some caution should always be in order when walking around the city, trying not to stand out like the tourist who has just arrived that very morning and taking care not to show any valuables.
Taxis are great to move around, as they are incredibly cheap, and the drivers are usually honest and helpful.
Do not hesitate to try the food of even some less than glamorous establishments, as you will often find excellent dishes there at a very low cost and with very hospitable hosts.

Tunis is a vibrant city with a rich history dating back to...
Tunis is a vibrant city with a rich history dating back to the 2nd millennium BCE. The city has been controlled by Phoenicians, Romans, Arab Muslims, the Ottomans, the Spanish, the French, and the Germans, finally achieving independence as the capital of Tunisia in 19561. The medina is a network of narrow alleyways, mosques, mausoleums, palaces, and a souq where shoppers haggle over the price of everything from filigreed gold to inexpensive souvenirs1. If you’re looking for places to stay, eat, or things to do in Tunis, you can check out the reviews on Tripadvisor.
I hope this helps!
The hosts were very welcoming and lovely. We got on with them like our family. The train station (Tunis marine) is a 10-15 min walk and the train goes to tourist and scenic destinations like Carthage and Sidi bou said. There is also a direct coach to hammamet from the nearby coach station bab alioua. I would reccomend you to stay in this hotel to explore Tunis as well as other nearby cities like sousse and hammamet in Tunisia. I would visit again as the hospitality was great. Thank you
Just stayed one night and all was fine. The location is ideal and the room was clean and quiet thus the Carlton was a great choice. I had an early flight and had only 10 minutes for breakfast but luckily it opened at 6AM. I wish I had more time, the breakfast spread was far beyond expectations. Airport transport with the hotel's vehicle is very, very reasonable, only 20 dirham for a dropoff and 30 for a pickup. When I return to Tunis this will again be my choice.
Room number 305 was facing the rear of the hotel which made it a very quiet room. The staff were exceptionally accommodating and helpful.. I enjoyed the coffee service in the room to have a cup before going to breakfast which was also excellent. Wonderful strawberries in April. There is a terrace on the top floor with cool breezes and a nice few over the area. Beds were comfortable, the bathroom was huge. Linens were changed daily. Also very close to the airport.
Beautiful hotel with amazing and spacious rooms that include all the amenities and products you could ever need. The rooftop has incredible views and a restaurant with reasonably priced food. it is located near the medina and information if provided concerning activities, walking yours and the history of the area. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a touch of luxury and relaxation during their trip in Tunisia.
What an incredible stay! From the warm, welcoming staff and their generosity to the perfect location of the facility. The breakfasts were divine and the dinners were warm, hearty and full of love. The rooms were spotless and tastefully designed. An incredible view of Tunis can be had from the rooftop terrace as well as a lovely nap or sun session from there as well. I truly cannot say enough good things about the Dar El Medina.
Everything was excellent.
Nice and quiet hotel very well situated in Lake 2 with helpful and friendly staff available all the time to serve your needs.
During check-in, my room reservation was upgraded from premium room to a one bedroom apartment, which was satisfactory and pleasant to stay in with no extra cost.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to stay in Tunis.
It's a very nice hotel near the center of Tunis. The room was clean and quite big - there was hot water - not always available in Tunisia - and the staff is very helpful. There are some sounds from the outside - a building construction opposite and a disco downstairs - we were on Friday and it finished at 1 am - you can hear it but it is not too disturbing.
The hotel is clean and comfortable with good location. Rooms are newly renovated with good beds and nice furnitures. The area is really nice and you find a lot of shops and restaurants close to hotel. It's easy to go La Marsa or Tunis downtown. Airport is really close to hotel as well. Breakfast was really good and you could pick it from the menu.
New, clean, warm and cosy hotel just close to the heart of the town. Few meters from the medina and all the touristiques points of the center. Staff friendly and helpful. Personally I had some familiar issue and they help me for what was in their possibility. If I LL have the possibility to back in Tunis, I LL back at Hotel Suisse.
Budget hotel for budget traveller. OK Breakfast. Staff nice and spoke French at reception. Less than 5 minute walk to medina. Lots of nearby cafes and diners in an authentic living and breathing part of Tunis.
A good option for a backpacker traveller
I do like everyone and everything the place is new and very clean the food was perfect too ..it's nice area as you can walk to the center in 20 min .I like the restaurants around the hotel it's traditional Tunisia plate..
All was perfect .
Grear locatio. Lovely staff. Loved the little balcony for breakfast. Breakfast was pretty good with a lot to choose from. The hotel feels recently renovated which is always a nice thing. The location is just perfect in the centre of Tunis
The location of the hotel is really convenient, close to public transport facilities. I really liked the staff members and their sense of humour 😁😁 I will recommend the hotel to everybody wants to visit Tunis.
Very clean and nice hotel
Amazing staff all is very helpful and amazing smile I am really love food and people there specially Ismael in reception and housekeeping staff and restaurant
My usual hotel for one night or two nights stay in Tunis, the location is alright, the people here are great, and due to its close distance to ministry of interior, it’s very safe
This is a new hotel with nice room and common areas furniture. The staff are courteous and friendly. Breakfast is varied and tasty. The hotel is not far from Tunis Airport.
