    Tranquil hotel in Varanasi
    • Leisure trip
    • Family with young children
    • Deluxe Double Room
    • Stayed 2 nights

We had booked two double rooms, but in the end were given one twin room and one double room. Given that the hotel only accepts cash, and as ATMs generally charge for cash withdrawals, this adds an extra 3% to the price of the booking.

Good communication - we were contacted to see if we needed transport/dinner on arrival. The driver was waiting for us when the flight landed and dinner was ready when we reached the hotel. The location is good, close to the Ganges and in the middle of town, but it was quite nonetheless. There was a proper strong, hot shower. Indian-style breakfast served in the morning.

The bathroom in the smaller room could do with a little renovation. The table linen for the dining tables need to be updated and cleaner.

First the hotel was a beautiful heritage property, exactly what we were looking for to experience the essence of Varanasi. The food was excellent and the chef Ranjeet was experienced, entertaining and always ready to please and accommodate. We couldn't have asked for a better staff including Hanu, Ranjeet, Rahul, Ram, the gatekeeper, all of whom made us feel like part of the family!

First room had moldy smelling bathroom, complained and they gave us a nicer room. Breakfast was poor, with cheap white bread toast, with butter and jam, and deep fried, white bread pakoras, or deep fried spinach pakoras, rice cereal, tea, bananas and oranges. Dinners were served too late for our health.

The Ancient Siva-Kali Temple on premises with friendly young priest was priceless, well cared for garden was very lovely. Staff was serviceful, room was clean, bed was comfortable, bedding was nice, sitting room was charming & pleasant. Breakfast served in attractive patio setting.

High humidity made room feel damp. We had a room with stone floors and completely stone bathroom. Other rooms appear to have tiled floors and basins which I would prefer. Access is a little complicated needing a key or call to staff to open gates. Gates are very stiff to open and way down to ghat is littered and dog poo on steps. I hope staff might consider some cleaning of this. Charm and grace of staff more than made up for these comments which are intended as suggestions for improvements…

Quietness was exceptional. Very attractive : unique being an old family home with 5 rooms . Home cooked meals served in pretty courtyard.

For western travelers like myself keep in mind that this is not the Marriott. There is no tv (although they had great internet service), nor is there a 24 hour front desk.

This is a very cool place. It is a converted palace on one of the ghats. The rooms are spacious, clean, and comfortable. There is a wonderful courtyard area where the meals are served which is very conducive to meet the other guests. The place is quiet which is likely unusual for a hotel in Varanasi. The hotel property has a wonderful view of the Ganges The owner set me up with a guide named Prassan which turned out to be a wonderful thing. I spent three days exploring the city with him.

The boat trip was not that good, we could not get near the main ghat for Arti. We didn’t know that credit cards are not accepted at the hotel so had to change money at last minute.

Very friendly and helpful owners and staff. The location was perfect, it was quiet and there are lots of outdoor spaces to rest and relax. Our room was very comfortable and we had a big roof terrace with view of the Ganges.

Providing drinks during the day (Coffee, tea, soft drinks) could be nice to enjoy and relax in the yard or even on the terrasse if shade could be provided.

Location is clearly perfect! Green and quiet! Between ghats and temples. Food was absolutely delicious with breakfast menu changed everyday. Dinners were excellent too (many restaurants in Varanasi will struggle to compete, even some famous ones). Lovely yard on which to relax and have breakfast, dinners.

That I wasn’t able to pay with a card! Somewhere like this, charging these kind of rates, really should have that facility in 2023. We had to scrabble around finding an ATM at very short notice. Also make sure you know about the additional ‘fees’ on top of the booking . Com price quoted. Just a few hundred rupees but it messed up our end of trip finances royally! Good to know about it. Would also be nice if there was somewhere comfortable to sit out and read, in the shade, in one of the lovely garden spaces which are a bit under whelming as they’re not really that cared for. And importantly… if you plan to head out early to see the dawn by the river as we did, make sure you tell them as we were met with a 3m high locked gate and had to rouse one of the team (who wasn’t too happy at our 5.15am wake-up call) to let us out. Other than these points, which in themselves were not deal breakers, this is a great choice that feels like a little oasis in the bonkersness!

Tucked away, away from the major hussle of the city… you’ll think ‘it can’t be down here?!’ But it is! Rooms are nice, simply furnished, great shower, good (if a little noisy) AC. Breakfast was OK but not spectacular. I also liked having access to a fridge in their kitchen to chill our water bottles. Wifi excellent.

Lovely stay in Varanasi at peaceful beautiful location. Arrived late at night with the assistance of the owner to direct auto rickshaw driver by phone. Enjoyed the easy that Hanu sorted our diversion in train departure stations, and other matters (thank you Hanu). Loved Ranjeet's cooking and auto rickshaw driving(thanks mate). Very much enjoyed Prasann Rajhav aka 'Happy' who we engaged for Old Town Varanasi tour, appreciate your honest Happy! Thanks again.

Would be great if they can give the bathroom tiles a little scrub, but it might be part of the charm

It's a gem! The photos don't justify the charm of the property. Great location, walking distance to temples and activities. Rooms are by the river and you can watch the Ganges river sunrise from the room. You can also take a boat from the property. The garden and the well decorated home gives you your well needed peace and quiet after a tiring and crazy day of activities. Food is amazing! Service is amazing! Its a home away from home!

    N/A

This truly was the highlight of our trip in India. We stayed at a variety of hotels from 5 stars to 3 stars but this was unmatched in its authenticity. It is in an incredible location - a tranquil little oasis in the middle of town (10 minute walk to main ghat) and is quiet, peaceful and incredibly safe. I am travelling with my 16 year old daughter and we were treated like family in this little haven. Except that my ACTUAL family don’t cook and care for us like this family 🤣! The owner, Ruchi, is kind, knowledgeable and organises whatever trips and guides you want. Highly recommend Prassan’s walking tour. She gives great advice and has a wonderful sense of humour and compassion. The cook/tuk tuk driver/Jack-of-all-trades, Ranjeet, is possibly the most positive and friendly person I have ever met. His cooking (breakfast and dinner) is the best we had in India! Authentic Indian vegetarian food - unbelievably delicious and served with generosity of spirit and heart. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Be sure to go on the roof top to soak up the views. Also ensure that if you take a tuk tuk or taxi that is not from the guest house that the driver truly knows where to go! We would like to have stayed forever! Thankyou Ruchi, Rajeet and Rahul

Having to leave Varanasi to go home 😁

The owner was charming, humble, extremely helpful and knowledgable! Her staff were also very helpful and went above and beyond. The estate was located in easy distance of the major ghats and had great transportation links to good historical places, shrines and commerical shopping malls. We asked the owner if she could arrange a walking tour and a sun rise boat tour of the Ganges, both were done without hestitation! The estate was also guarded by a gateman, which made it secure and safe, and most of all, despite the hustle and bustle of the streets of Varanasi, the estate was extremely peaceful and quiet! The owner's love and commitment to good customer service is very well evidenced in the breakfasts, dinners and the overall customet service!! I will definitely stay again when visiting Varanasi. It felt like a home from home!

The "curfew" imposed for 9pm is decidedly inconvenient as at that time the gate allowing access is closed. There would be the option of calling to have the gate opened but not everyone is willing to spend a lot of euros for an international call. It would be necessary to establish an evening porter at least until midnight. Two familiar extremes: how kind and smiling the owner is, how her daughter (the person with whom we were in daily contact) is sullen and uncommunicative. No smile and decidedly cold communication and upon departure (after a 5 night stay!) not even a shred of greeting. Some lessons on how to communicate with customers would be very useful.

Fantastic location, an oasis of peace in the terrible chaos of Varanasi. The view of the river, the refined and elegant furnishings, the atmosphere of times gone by, the well-kept garden, the delicious dinners cooked in a creative way, make this accommodation unique and special. Absolutely recommended for those looking for something refined and not ordinary. The owner is a classy lady, affable, friendly, cultured and smiling.

It was one of the best stays I have experienced. Ranjit bhaiya was the perfect host who made our stay flawless and also guided us to go around the city. He recommended the best places to eat and visit and would always answer all our queries! The location was perfect, in the centre of the city, near most relevant places and right at the Ganga river. The terrace room was the cherry on the top with a great view to enjoy the beautiful rainy weather.
