Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

AustraliaIf you are seeking modern amenities this is not the place for you. The charm of the original decorations completely outweighed any need for modernity.
Classic old French country home surrounded by vineyards. All the floors and walls were from another era. This was an unique historical experience. And there were two delightful cats to get to know.

Easy for my dog, walks next to the house. I loved the surroundings. The house was as described but wouldn’t suit everyone.

United KingdomThis house is full of family history. It is on the outskirts of Birac so all shops and food are a few miles away but you would realise that when booking. The host made me a meal but not sure it is guaranteed. The house is worth a visit in itself.

GermanyIt's a large historic building which keeps the cold insight in summer. You might feel a little bit cold but heaters and extra blankets are provided by the very friendly owner.
If you want to stay in a 250-year old castle, La Cure du Maine Charles is your place. Preserved over the years and nicely furnished with the family's antique furniture you feel transported back in time. An exceptional building to understand how families lived in former times. We appreciated the history even more after Luca, the owner, shared his family history with us. He made us very welcomed in English which he speaks beside French and Italian.

United KingdomWe loved the location surrounded by miles and miles of vineyards. The gothic room we stayed in came with beautiful carved furniture as well as an interesting story. Luca and his mother were extremely kind and welcoming and even provided a delicious vegetarian meal which we shared with them while hearing some fascinating stories about the history of the house and their family.

If you like an old French upper-class house with pros and cons, this place is perfect. Quiet and peaceful with old furniture and, in my case, a large four-poster bed. Missed a table with chair to work. Likewise, a "good chair". Fantastic atmosphere.

United KingdomNothing to do with the property, but it might be useful to know there are no local restaurants open on Sunday evenings and Mondays seem to be closing days as well. The owners will provide plates, glasses and cutlery for your own supplies.
The location is beautiful - vineyards and fields in rolling countryside. The hosts were very friendly and unbelievably helpful. Luc went far beyond expectations in helping us locate a tyre repair company when we found we had tyre damage. He stayed with us in our search and made sure we were going to be all right. We cannot thank him enough. The Gothic room is fabulous, although you need to be prepared for a dry toilet !

United KingdomHonestly, I must say the bed was not comfy and I was cold as I couldn't find an extra cover. The breakfast was less than good, lacking variety and quality. I didn't object to the composting toilet but not sure it was being used correctly (lined with a plastic bag?). You may need to put all your clothes on a hot wash as there is an air of damp. Obviously in a location as rural as this, you can't expect the wifi to be great.
The house itself is amazing, full of antiques and beautiful things. It was perfectly located for us on our bike trip. The older-generation woman gave the 4 cyclists staying there a meal for 15 Euro as there is nowhere else to eat nearby. This was a communal affair and very jolly, especially as she speaks good English for when my French failed. The younger-generation man was very welcoming and informative. It's a family house and there's a sense you are staying somewhere special. There were facilities for making tea and coffee. All in all the people are helpful and very friendly, it's in a lovely place, and very quiet.

United KingdomThis is perhaps just our (unfair) wrong expectation but the place is very very old and surrounded by the countryside so therefor you cannot expect to keep the bugs out, too many cracks and openings. Even though efforts are clearly made to keep it clean we sadly encountered a few smaller and bigger bugs which made us feel less comfortable. I suspect that most guest will accept it in such an ancient castle but personally I would make more effort perhaps to professionally exterminate across the estate and maybe always keep all food wrapped or hermetically closed to reduce the risks.
Chateau has so much potential, authenticity and space and could be polished into something extraordinary. Host speaks English fluently, is polite and very accommodating when we arrived late, as only guests on a cold and dark January night. Room was very spacious and nicely heated. Breakfast served in the large historical kitchen was nice although not very elaborate.
