Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United States of AmericaIt takes about a 15 minute walk up a hill to get there with many steps involved but you get to see what it’s like to live there.
Really beautiful property, the staff was very kind and friendly. It’s a small property and they serve really good breakfast.

United States of AmericaNothing to dislike - just be aware that the rooms are basic. No A/C, just a fan. Not a problem for me though.
I stayed at three different hotels during my time in Rio and this was my favorite one! I loved the lush courtyard that made you feel like you're miles away from the city, and chilling in one of the hammocks at night while listening to the birds - a calm little oasis in Rio. Another thing I really appreciated was the delicious breakfast that was served every morning- homemade, and cooked with love. While the pousada is located in a favela, I never felt unsafe there - but this may not be for everyone. Also be aware that the pousada is up on a hill, so if you're mobility-impaired, this may be an issue (the moto taxis can take you only up part of the hill, then there are still some stairs to climb..) I love walking, so it wasn't a problem for me.

United KingdomI booked this place because I read so many incredible reviews and now it’s my turn to add another! The people at this hostel - staff and guests alike made our trip in Rio (it was our first time). They made us feel completely at home, even taking us to incredible, authentic samba, recommending great places to eat, picking us fresh native fruit to try and so much more. We felt super welcomed in by the community in the favela and felt much safer there than on the streets outside. The hostel itself is an oasis of calm- a pleasure to return to after a day in the busy city. I especially recommend this place if you are a solo traveller - I was with my dad this time but it was so easy to meet other wonderful, kind people who are keen to connect and do things together. Finally, the breakfasts are DELICIOUS. A wonderful way to wake up each morning. Also, the beds are super comfy!

GermanyWe really had a wonderful stay at Eco Pousada! It's a little paradise in big City Rio and they make the most delicious breakfast. Super cute rooms, clean and airconditioned and close to Copacabana. We felt super save in the area and everyone was helpful for tips around Rio and further travel destinations. Big plus for the location of the accomodation, which made it feel more authentic than the hotel chains on the mainroads. Nice and friendly people around the neighbourhood as well. We really loved it! One of our best accomodations here :)

FranceIt is a bit far from the beach and the city. Also you have to walk up during 20 minutes to get there.
Vivi was lovely, she was very welcoming and helpful. The room and the pousada's garden were perfect. There was also a terrace with a great view. The breakfast was healthy and delicious. We loved the favela's experience.

United KingdomSome may be concerned at being part of a favela - but we felt safer than in some of the smarter areas of Rio!
This pousada is a great little eco and social project in a poor favela above Leme Beach and Copacabana.. Bibi is the friendly and inspirational creator. There was an interesting range of guests attracted by the cultural connection but it’s not for the faint hearted. We got fit climbing the hill and steps and the reward of a stunning view and delightful enclosed courtyard makes it well worthwhile!

We had an amazing stay in Babilônia. Bibi is a great host and the favela is a really welcoming and friendly place. The breakfast was outstanding and the mototaxis make it very easy to get up the hill!

GermanyNothing I can think of. Simply. AMAZING!
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 the BEST experience I had in Rio! I was in Rio for 3 weeks and spend time in different hotels. Eco Pousada Estrelas da Babilônia was by far my favourite! Would recommend 1000%. If you want to have a true cultural experience in Rio you need to go there. The host Bibi was very friendly and nice, great rooms, great diverse daily breakfast and the favela is simply breathtaking - you can tell how much effort, heart and soul Bibi puts into the place. Also, it's very close to Leme beach. A one of a kind experience. I feel happy and blessed to have spend time there :)

GermanyThe most extraordinary place we have come across during our travels so far. Bibi is the best, most helpful host and her breakfasts (different every day!) are legendary. We stayed in a very nice, clean room with private bath. A quiet oasis to explore colourful & busy Rio! We stayed 6 days… enjoying the views of the Copacabana & Cristo Redentor simultaneously!

GermanyThe room heats up a lot during the day and is hard to cool down without AC. Keep in mind you have to walk quite a few stairs to reach this place. If you have problems to get an Uber to this place it helps to select a place lower on the hill.
Very friendly owner/personel. Amazing breakfast. Nice and creative furnishing. Great view at night and day. Good shower. Relaxing hamocks in the bar.

United KingdomWorth considering the walk uphill may not be for everyone, but Bibi meets you and walks up with you.
Bibi was a wonderful host, friendly and warm and made us very welcome. Kitchen was great , fully equipped and clean! Room was nice with a decent fan as well. Communal area was also good and outside areas were nice. We loved the breakfast , you can tell Bibi puts so much effort in to what she prepares. It is different every day but with frozen mango smoothie bowls, eggs , warm bread, fruit! We loved it. Not to mention the amazing views you get from the top ,and it's in a great location with friendly locals and near the tranquil and safe leme beach.

NetherlandsIt is a bit of a walk up since the Uber can only go a certain part of the favela after which streets are not found on the map. The walk down was a bit longer since the Uber app did not recognize the drop off location as a place where the Uber could pick you up. So you end up walking to the entrance of the favela, but it is worth it. Walking up from the Uber spot is about 5-10mins, walking up from the beginning of the favela is about 20 mins.
We had a wonderful stay in this pacified favela on the top of Leme. Arriving in the favela was interesting but soon you notice everybody is friendly. You'll get picked up and walk the stairs to the hostel with one of its employees, which helps a lot since it can otherwise be a bit of a search. Once there you'll finally see the amazing view over the city from a green terrace with bamboo. Christ the Redeemer and Copacabana can be seen very well. The host/personnel were all very friendly and helped us with tips. The room was spacious and the fan worked well. Also a different, amazing freshly baked breakfast every morning. Highly recommend this for your trip to Rio.
