An absolutely beautiful hotel in a terrific, quiet location. We loved the hotel's historic, elegant courtyard. A delicious breakfast was served on a beautiful terrace. The bed was comfortable, hot shower was terrific. It is a ten minute walk to the main plaza, but we loved staying in this historic, more quiet neighborhood. I would absolutely stay here again when I return to Arequipa! The best feature of the hotel, however, was the wonderful staff. Alejandra was incredibly helpful in so many ways. I had a meeting at the hotel, and she volunteered to bring us coffee. She went out of her way to arrange our transport to Colca Canyon during a holiday week. She truly went above and beyond to help us. The other staff were very friendly too, helping us get water at night and asking if we needed anything. This was the best staff we've experienced in Peru. Thank you!

Arequipa has a European flair that I love! The food is amazing, especially Chupe de Camarones (Shrimp stew) and Rocoto Rellena with Pastel de Papas (Stuffed Hot Pepper with Scalloped Potatoes). There is also a great sandwich shop called "La Lucha" on Mercaderes, a pedestrian street off the Plaza. There is also a great Pizzeria called "Marengo" on Av Santa Catalina, also near the National Cathedral.
Arequipa is a strange place. We had such high expectations! It was honestly a disappointment compared with the rest of Peru. Arequipa's weather is probably the best competed with all of Peru; this is a big plus. The monastery located in the center of Arequipa is the only thing worth seeing in the town; it is honestly incredible! We stayed four days in Arequipa when two would have been more than enough. There is really not much to do, the streets are full of honking and aggressive drivers who do not stop for pedestrians and the food is the worst we had in Peru. We hired a driver one day to take us up to the area surrounding the volcano. We went up to an elevation of over 4000 meters and it was very intense. The views were spectacular and we saw a lot of alpacas and llamas. So if you are planning a trip here just spend one day at the monastery (it takes many hours to get through and it's worth it) and one day doing a drive a few hours outside of the city (the highway that takes you to Puno).
Arequipa is a great city to visit while in Peru. We stayed three nights and found that to be quite good. We didn't do any excursions from Arequipa, but rather just enjoyed being in the city. For dining options, you'll find great restaurants along Calle San Francisco and Calle Santa Catalina. A tip for travelers on taking a taxi: It costs 10 soles from the bus terminal to the city center, but it's 15 soles from the city center to the terminal. Nevertheless, always settle on a price when taking a taxi in Peru.
We had two very relaxing days in Arequipa. We decided to use the time to explore the old town and also indulge in the peruvian cusine. The Cathedral is worth a visit as you can go up to the roof and get a great view of the main square and the mountains in the distance. Many delicious places to eat. We stumbled across a very cute french creperie with a delicious range and you can play board games on the tables. We also did an awesome cooking experience with Arthur at Peruvian flavours where we visited the local market to see and learn about local produce as well as try a number of delicious fruit. we then returned later that evening to Arthur's restaurant to cook a 2 course Andean Menu which was so much fun, we learn new cooking tips and ate our delicious food. If we had more time we would have visited the canyon and volcanoes.
You will get a taste of city life outside of Lima in Arequipa. We especially liked our detailed tour of the Monastery (worth the extra cost) and the Free City Tour. Try to eat a meal at an authentic (tipika) restaurant--we learned these meals are only available from about noon to 5pm. These restaurants are not in the historic district. We didn't go to see the condors but others we talked to found this a wonderful side trip. Just navigating crossing the busy streets when vehicles don't stop at STOP signs is a "cultural experience". Hint: Step into the actual road and most vehicles will stop (briefly).
My favourite city in Peru in terms of beauty, elegance and history. It's relatively small, all the attractions in the city are within walking distance and the food is great. All the produce is locally grown and therefore fresh. The climate is warm and not too high (altitude) so it's a great place to start acclimatising The Colca Canyon is a popular daytrip. Be warned the drive goes through high altitude so take it easy and don't do it on your first day there! Also the standard trek is hard so unless you're very fit it's best to do it over 2 days. Arequipa has some interesting local foods - recotta rellena (stuffed red peppers) are delicious everywhere and lomo saltado de alpaca at Arthur's was delicious
Arequipa is a beautiful city, great to walk around, the food its great. The people is warm and willing to help all the time. It’s a very safe place at all times of the day. There’s a lot to learn about its history, and its a great point to stay is you whant to go to Machupichu because its only a overnight bus away to Cusco, and from there you take a hour and hour and half train trip to Aguas Calientes.
There’s a lot adventure in Arequipa. I did the colca cannon and it was amazing... be aware, it is a little bit hard for average person, but no imposible. The santa Catalina Monastery is beautiful, is like a little city stock in time and space. Places to eat: Las gringas (great pizzas), Crepisimo (Delicious sweet or salty crepes) and Chicha( expensive but totally worth it... try the rocoto relleno here)
We were only there a few days and originally planned only on colca canyon. Once we arrived in arequipa, we decided to spend our time only in the city and return to visit the canyon. Beautiful white city with a gorgeous square which is all for pedistrians. The cathedral is beautiful and our tour thru was interesting. We spent hours in the monastery... probably the highlight ofy trip. Don't miss the restaurant which was once part of the site...you enter from outside and can not access thru monastery...although they have an open view into the monastery. Food was delicious, and beautifully displayed, service top_notch...not inexpensive but worth every dime! If you like shopping, outside of the historical area, there are nice malls. Within they have some nice shopping also...wish I had bought a couple more alpaca scarves. People friendly and many tour options to colca,Cusco, lake Titicaca. City is surrounded by volcanoes... scenery is beautiful and lots of contrast. This is a city worth spending alittle extra time visiting. We are planning a return trip.
Lovely city. Many things to do with great and friendly people. Very diverse selection of things to do with great deals and cheap eats but also very culinary choices. Some very hip places to eat, shop and drink. Great traditional Peruvian food but Las Gringas is a great pizza place with great drinks. Arequipa is easy to get around. Monasterio de Santa Catalina is a must along with La Mansion del Fundador. Free walking tour of city great. Fantastic double decker tour of city and areas right outside. Easy to take a day trip to Cola Canyon. If traveling with kids, it's easy to break the day up with sight seeing and hanging out in Plaza de Armas. Definitely stay close to the Plaza!
Arequipa
Liked everything, from the very beginning moment. I was thinking to cancel the reservation here to look for another hotel closer to plaza. Thanks God I didn't cancel it. Hotel is amazing, nice decorated, rooms were big, clean. But the most amazing thing was that they checked in us at 8am, because we arrived to Arequipa early in the morning and also we got 8 rooms instead of 6, so those who were nor couples had their own rooms. Not enough words to thank all of the staff for amazing stay. See you next time!
The beds were most comfortable we slept in while in Peru. Soft, warm and cozy! The room was spacious and comfortable with a sofa/sitting area and small kitchen. Great for a family. The courtyards were beautiful and a terrific respite from the hustle of Arequipa! The location to the Plaza was perfect--not too far, but not close enough to hear the noise and experience the busyness. Very clean, overall. Staff was very helpful and packed us to-go breakfast for our last day when we left early.
Casa Baraquel was my absolute favorite hotel during my stay in Peru! The bed was comfortable, the room was great, the backyard where we could have breakfast (which was tasty) was very pretty, and we could walk from there to the center of Arequipa as well (about 20 mins walk). All the staff was very nice and helpful. My boyfriend got quite sick (nothing related to the hotel) and they were really helpful, trying to help him get better. I would recommend 100% and would go back anytime!!
Arequipa
we booked the suite room and it is as beautiful as advertised. we love how it is close to downtown and a lot of the night life in Arequipa. there was also a speakeasy right next to the hotel that plays spanish songs all night long which we loved. water pressure was good and the bathtub works well. front desk was very accommodating to booking tours and activities. continental breakfast was also provided in the morning. there was also a gameroom with pool table thats open 24hrs.
I had a very comfortable stay here! One of the best hotels I stayed in Peru! The location is great and only few minutes walk to the main attractions in Arequipa and the central square. The room was extremely clean. The mattress and bedding was super comfortable. Nice, spacious bathroom with hot shower and good water pressure. The downstairs lobby had filtered cold or hot water to make tea which was very convenient. The staff was very accommodating, helpful and friendly.
our stay at La Plaza Arequipa was incredible. the staff was super accommodating to our needs and so very nice. the location is superb, you’re close to everything: shops, taxis, restaurants etc. the hotel itself was beautiful and spotless. Highlight for me was being able to enjoy breakfast from the balcony that overlooked La Plaza de Armas. Looking forward to our next trip to Arequipa where we will definitely be back! Thank you again to the staff, you are incredible!
random little find, wasn’t expecting much as it was a lot cheaper than other hotels, but it was really good! don’t understand why this place didn’t have many reviews, maybe it’s new. silent at night, big rooms, cleaned every day, good shower, big tv and for some reason really cheap. staff didn’t speak amazing English but were very friendly and it’s right in the heart of old town Arequipa near some lovely cafes and restaurants. I’d defo stay here again
Arequipa
the owner and his family amazingly nice people. They arranged everything for me in Arequipa, canyon tour, taxi… and everything was with a fair price the hotel is really clean, quiet, good wifi, everyday they clean the rooms which is exceptional for Peru it is 10 mins to the plaza de armes and inside a nice quarter, nice walk to the city centre they have big, clean, nice kitchen and even they have a rooftop that you can watch sunsets there
The common faciltitiea and the backyard are just amazing, especially if you have a day off in Arequipa and want to just relax. It has a great vibe, the staff is nice, there are sunbeds availableamd you can have have drinks/food at the bar. Out of all the hotels we staid in Peru - this one we enjoyed the most. It is also a mix of a hostel and hotel vibe, which I very much appreciate as it allows you to meet other people
Superb location of Plaza de Armas in Arequipa. Convenience stores with empanadas, bakery and basic food just at the entrance to the hotel. Great and helpful staff at reception, cleaning people and in the restaurant on the rooftop. This restaurant, serving breakfasts and dinners directly overlooking Plaza de Armas was the main reason why we have chosen Katari Hotel and the views were really stunning.
Quiet, lovely house in a great location, built in the old Arequipa style. The receptionist and everyone else working at the hotel was very nice and attentive, helped us check in from our other hotel late at night, and gave us breakfast a little past the hour knowing we had not slept a lot. Very nice overall and would recommend it for a true rest getaway at Arequipa close to the historic center.
Arequipa
That we had a night near the Airport for our early departure. A huge thank you to the gals at the front desk for bringing us a cup of coffee to our room. We were obviously looking very tired from our adventure of finding our way to the hotel through numerous road blocks. It had been a 12 hour day starting in Puno at 6 a.m. and somewhat harrowing navigating our way to Arequipa Airport.
Le Foyer was our favorite accommodation during our travels in Peru. The staff was really attentive, bringing us tea to our room when we were feeling a little sick because of the altitude. Most of the staff spoke perfect English and the services were amazing, having an affordable laundry service and amazing breakfast. If I am to return to Arequipa, I would definitely stay here again!
Arequipa
I had a great stay at Misti Hostel B&B. The location is excellent and is very close to the city center. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The hostel also has a lot of outside areas and is super clean and well taken care of. And also and excellent breakfast. I would stay here again when in Arequipa.
“French touch” hotel. Great staff. New facilities. Incredible rooftop panoramic view, perfect for the breakfast. The king bed comfort wowed me. Large room with private bathroom, separate WC, TV and wifi. Was the first time in Arequipa I have a so quiet room in an hotel next to the historical center, just 2 minutes walk.
Nice and comfortable hotel in a great location. 5 mins walk to Plaza de Armas and felt very safe at all times. Arequipa in general felt very safe. Make sure you book the rooftop jacuzzi for some relaxation with magical view of the volcanoes. Very good breakfast in the courtyard. Good restaurants nearby.
Arequipa
Amazing house with a history. Ask the owners about it! Very well traveled and they can tell you a lot about Peru and Arequipa. They have even been to Haarlem, small world. The hostel is next to a big road, so if this bothers you in the evening, ask for a room on the garden side.
Nice clean room in a good location to walk into the tourist centre of Arequipa. The staff were very friendly and let us drop our bags off and check in early after our night bus which was very appreciated. The laundry service was fast and cheap.
The Hotel is charming and location is convinience a few steps to the Plaza the Armas. Ms. Milagros and Mr. Diego were super friendly and helpful by providing's information and tips about Arequipa center places to visit and eating.
This hotel is located directly on Arequipa's main square. We motorcycled in at a super busy time and the staff were very helpful, assisted unloading and with parking our bike. The food was excellent, especially breakfast.
