This hotel is divided into 2 buildings from the 18th-century, a former school, from Napoleon III period. Stunning building, the courtyard is an oasis of calm. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Could not be a more central location; you step out of the door on to one of the prettiest areas of Azay le Rideau. Rooms are simple but completely in keeping with the property. Great bed; shower - and surprisingly for the age of the building - wonderful aircon (it was 35 degrees the day we arrived). Breakfast is great, very chilled start to the day in the courtyard with a collection of fresh, local produce. Free parking nearby; 11kW EV charging nearby too (only one of two working though). Great start to a holiday - and a brilliant pit stop if you are driving further south.

Hôtel Grand Monarque is an 18th-century post house, located at the heart of the Loire Valley in Azay-le-Rideau, 492 feet from its famous castle. It features a lounge bar. Location was absolutely excellent - in a little town, with a fabulous Loire chateau just easy walking distance. The place, although quite old, had been beautifully modernized (with a nice elevator) without loss of character. The staff were extremely helpful and considerate. Breakfast was a bit expensive, but very plentiful, so we didn't need lunch!! My wife just loved the place, and hopes we can go back for a longer period of time (so do I!).

It is set in a 20-hectare park with an Italian terrace and a heated outdoor swimming pool. restored chateau where you really felt you were staying in a grand yet authentic spot. service was impeccable even in the slow shoulder season. the grounds are gorgeous- would love to return in season. Michelin restaurant an amazing experience.
