Located in San Juan and with Ocean Park Beach reachable within a 3-minute walk, La Botanica Hotel provides a garden, non-smoking rooms, free WiFi throughout the property and a terrace. We definitely enjoyed our stay! Especially the connection to the nature - chilling at the terrace in the presence of small green lizards, falling asleep with sounds of coquís (in the first night we thought it was a parrot!), cozy common areas with all the flowers- La Botanica is anything but an ordinary, dull and monotone hotel, it is a real hidden gem. We loved the outdoor shower, coffee and water in the lobby, friendly stuff and primarily the LOCATION! It’s just 150 meters to the beach, 10 minutes to the airport by taking UBER and it’s a real pleasure to go for a morning run just by leaving the house and run! No obstacles, no crossing any traffic, just join another runners on the street.

Great place to relax and "do nothing" or participate in activities. For a family with older children, there is flexibility for each member to do his/her own thing or to be together a family. We chartered a small boat with El Tour Caribe to take us snorkeling. Our Captain (Tito) was very pleasant and we enjoyed the personalized service rather than going on one of the larger party boats. Having snorkeled at a number of other Caribbean islands and Hawaii, the snorkeling off Punta Cana was only fair.
A very picturesque old city. We felt very safe and the people were warm and friendly... not aggressive like other Caribbean islands were people swamp you to sell their merchandise or services. FOOD! There were so many great choices... We would highly recommend Punto de Vista Restaurant and Bar (rooftop, Mojitos and outstanding food) and Casa Cortes ChocoBar (Amazing Chocolate and breakfast choices)
Friday Night Jump Up was interesting. Fun music. Makes for good people watching. Really good street food, too. People were friendly but by the end of the 5 day trip, I was sick and tired of being hustled, solicited, and pan-handled. Seriously, you can't walk 10 meters/yards without someone wanting to sell you something, offer you a service (guide), sell you ganja, or beg a handout from you. I guess it comes with the territory and being Caucasian. The only way to avoid it is to stay on the resort. I haven't experienced it to this degree on any other of the many Caribbean islands I've visited but perhaps I've just been lucky. If you go to the Friday Night Jump Up, don't drive. Taxi's are easy to get and so much more convenient than trying to find a safe place to park a rental car, plus you're free to enjoy the Piton beers or the rum punch if you're not having to drive.
Nassau is the biggest island in the Bahamas but that doesn't take away from the island charm! The people are very friendly and always wiling to do whatever they can to please you. You can choose from a variety of cuisines from fast food to Italian to true Bahamian dishes. Many people choose to go and eat at the fish fry or Arawak Cay for authentic Bahamian food but I was content with the abundance of restaurants at the Atlantis. Expect to add 15% gratuity to everything, this is always added to your bill so always be cautious of this so that you do not add more unless you want to, there are exceptions however like taxi services and the bell men at hotels. The island is not cheap compared to other Caribbean islands so be mindful of this when traveling here but overall I recommend Nassau as a relaxing family vacation.
Gustavia town is a compact, attractive U-shaped cocoon for luxury yachts and high-style boutiques. Good eating options, fun bars. Wherever you stay on the island, you'll want to spend a day or a couple of nights in "town". Parking can be tight. Few buildings of architectural note, but (unlike so many Caribbean islands) there's no sleaze or scruffiness here.
During my stay I did horse riding trip and dolphin discovery and it was definitely so much fun. Punta Cana is nice and clean around resorts, but when you actually get out, the place is kind of dirty and very poor (but as many other Caribbean islands,so it was expected). Beaches are beautiful and the water is nice. Only thing what makes the stay a bit uncomfortable is that people constantly expect tips for absolutely everything. Otherwise they are also very friendly and helpful. While you are there you must try traditional Dominican drink called Mamajuana! 😉
If you are after nice beaches, this is not the place. There are many Caribbean islands with pristine beaches with smooth white sand and crystal clear waters. The Piña Coladas were nice but the cuisine isn't quite up there with other cuisines we have tried.
Old San Juan is amazing. The best town of all the Caribbean islands we visited. The Forts are a must see, and just walking the streets is an adventure. Fun shops, and lots of great places to eat. I felt safe and was not afraid even at night if you stick to the main streets. We look forward to another visit.
If you like beach hawkers, poor maintenance and "dangerous" warnings about some areas, this is the place for you. Like Mexico in the '70's, they have not quite grasped the concept of good service. The Palladium Resorts are often called 5 Star, but I would give them a 2 and a half. The facilities are beautiful, but the maintenance, food quality and service are disappointing. And...you can't drink the water. Try Mexico or the Caribbean Islands instead.
It is not the best place for travelers. The most beautiful beaches are private, all of them. There is no chance to enjoy a paradise island, except you pay for the hotel there crazy money. The people are unfriendly and rude. I would recommend to visit the rest of the Caribbean islands, but not Bahamas
