Mostly comfortable. The hotel was nice, there were beautiful views. I was very interested in those lovely traditional vintage decorations and the staffs and the hotel owner were kinda nice although their English was decent.

It's a pretty city...really easy to get about. We visited the old French prison but the museum is undergoing renovation (March 2024). Only 50% of information panels were translated into English. Great to run by the river...no dogs to bother you!

In Son La there is not much to do or to see.
In Son La there is not much to do or to see. There is a night market, but it is not so special.
Travellers should be careful when booking an online bus ticket from Son La to Hanoi paid in advance. The bus crew starting in Son La did not accept my online voucher for the ticket. Instead they demanded cash. So I paid twice because it was an over night bus and I had no alternatives.
