We loved the location on the river and being close to restaurants and shops. The family who hosted us was so sweet and welcoming. The bedding was excellent- soft pillows and even a heavy blanket for the cool evenings.

"I had a fantastic stay at Orient Hostel. The room was clean, comfortable, and equipped with great air conditioning and facilities, making it a very pleasant place to stay. However, the highlight of my experience was the wonderful family who runs the hostel. The owner of the hotel was always helpful - she booked all of the tours for us and reserved the bus for us. The rooms were clean, towels provided whenever we needed new ones, laundry service was cheap. The pool was big and working, the garden was very pretty.

We have been traveling for a year and a months in Asia and this is one of the best hotel experiences we had. The owners are so caring, friendly, and helpful.
They have free rental motorbikes and pedal bikes and provide free breakfast. We were able to check in at 6am due to an early bus and helped us order another bus with a free ride down town. When we said we would bike to a farm, the owner quickly pumped air into one of the bikes!
The room was spacious with a fridge and TV, and the bonus was that they owned a cute puppy that was friendly and adorable. 5/5 recommend this place over every other spot in Phong Nha!

We did the Phuong Nha Kayak tour and this was awesome.
We did the Phuong Nha Kayak tour and this was awesome. We went way past where the boats go and went into two different caves. One cave we went in over 1 kilometre. We had the option of a mud bath and swimming. A much better experience than just hoping in a boat and going into the cave and out again.
We went to paradise cave. This is a must do. We only did the 1 km boardwalk. We road there on a bike. No need for a tour. Next time I would do the 7km hike into the cave but this is a tour.

The National park and the caves are absolutely stunning and...
The National park and the caves are absolutely stunning and it’s a bit off the beaten track, so luckily not overrun by tourists. It was the highlight of our trip. The environment is quiet, green and rural and we enjoyed our stay very much. It is so nice to just get a bicycle and enjoy the environment!

The best place for vacation that I have been in Vietnam. There is plenty of nature to explore and immerse in, and it is quiet at night. Everybody is very helpful. Even though it is harder to find decent foods places. The town is small so you can either rent bikes or walk around.

DIY the caves yourself: All the of popular caves close to town are DIY posible. Rent a motorbike to do the road loop to Paradise and The Dark Cave. Phong Nha Cave....just walk to the main boat area and pay for your own boat and ticket to see the cave. At the Dark Cave they give you a guide for your entrance fee. Paradise is just a simple drive up to it, pay 275,000d and walk though it. With the tours you'd not get enough time to really enjoy them I think.

The Phong Nha Cave trip by boat was amazing, and a highlight of our 4 and a half weeks in Vietnam. We could've also included a 7km walk in the cave but were not sure how difficult that would be (climbing etc). This cave needs to be one of the wonders of the world, it is that good!
If we were coming here again, we would have chosen a cooler time of the year. We endured temperatures in the high 30s which was debilitating. I would be much more careful in choosing our accommodation too as our home stay accommodation consisted of a shipping container, very basically modified and far below a reasonable standard that domestic and overseas tourists should be able to expect.

Phong Nha is an absolute must stop on a tour of Vietnam. So many people have never heard of it, but it's fantastic. Yes, we loved the caves but we loved the scenery, the fun at Dark Cave, the relaxed vibe.
4 nights was perfect for us as we had a 3 week trip limit and other places to see, but if I wasn't on that restriction I'd stay longer.
