Tusayan offers a reasonable alternative to the usurious prices Xanterra is asking to stay on the South Rim of the canyon. The town itself seems to have been built last week and there's nothing to do there after 8:30 pm. Having said that, the town does offer the most vegetarian friendly steakhouse imaginable (yes, looking at you Yippie-Ti-Yay) and a few other restaurants that are not national chains as well as a post office that . . . functions, tho the postmistress is not a very polite representative of the federal government.

The staff does not speak my language and there are some offers that they offered me but they did not tell me that Mondays did not apply. They did not know how to tell me where the entrance or the attractions for the Grand Canyon were, I would have liked information for any day of the week to be available . The place is pleasant, it is cold, the landscapes are very beautiful.

If you have problems with slow drains, apparent black mold and/or unreliable heating unit get after management to change rooms immediately! Housekeeping were pleasant and worked hard. Front desk staff can be indifferent.

Tusayan is a cute, one-main-street town just south of the south entrance to the south rim of the Grand Canyon. People are very friendly here and Tusayan offers hotels/motels, restaurants, nice souvenir shopping, a homemade fudge/ice cream shop (that stays open later for those with a sweet tooth!), gas station, and bus stops with free shuttles that take you into the Grand Canyon area. As well, several Grand Canyon tour companies pick up in Tusayan. We really enjoyed our stay there! Just beware, the elk can get really close to/onto the roadway in the evenings. We were greeted by a small group of them very near to the first roundabout coming into Tusayan proper when driving in from the Camp Verde area. We enjoyed our meal at the Foodie Club - fresh ingredients/cool breakfast place with some other tasty stuff on the menu. And enjoyed the homemade fudge (lots of flavors available, they'll give you a sample to try a few if you can't decide) at Grand Canyon Chocolate Factory in Tusayan. We also loved the wide variety and pricing of souvenirs at the Grand Canyon Trading Post in Tusayan.

The location was great for proximity to the National Park and surrounding trails. Food and cocktails were convenient and great quality. Staff was very friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. Couldn't have asked for better, and for a great price.

I liked that Tusayan was only about 6 miles from the Canyon.
I liked that Tusayan was only about 6 miles from the Canyon. We drove to the park at 7 AM and had breakfast at the El Tovar hotel in the park. No waiting to enter the park, and only a short wait for breakfast (with a window view of the canyon).
The town felt safe and was very quiet at night.
We have been on the road for 10 days and have gone from Las Vegas to LA, at $300/ night this was the most expensive with the least perks. We are traveling in March, which means the shuttle to the Grand Canyon is not running. If I were to do it all over I would have gone 25 minutes out from the Canyon and booked something for half the price. All that said, even though the hotel is extremely outdated, the staff was kind and it did the job.
The location near the Grand Canyon was great. The front desk staff were very nice. The pub employees were awesome! Some reviews didn't like that the indoor pool was in a separate building. It didn't make sense until we arrived, but it's only 50 feet from a door to the rest of the hotel. Kids under 12 eat free breakfast buffet, although it's $18 for the rest of us. All in all, we will return.
Got a free upgrade from a King room to a King room with a pull-out sofa when checking into the room. Location was in Tusayan (2 minutes from the entrance to Grand Canyon National Park). Small outdoor pool and jacuzzi is available, which is great for those who want to relax after a long day of hiking in the park. Staff were polite and responsive to any requests/questions.
This is a really nice cozy hotel with good facilities. An excellent restaurant for dinner. Small indoor pool and a hot tub. Easy parking and plenty of other restaurants and shops within walking distance.
National Park entrance is just a few minutes drive, but be sure to get there early; later in the day, the queues were stretching up to Tusayan general store.
This place far exceeded our expectations. The room was big and very comfortable and the bathroom facilities were great. There is a spa inside the hotel which was lovely. Great location to the grand canyon which was about a five-ten minute drive into the park.
I wish we could have stayed here longer.
Very spacious apartment a short drive from the Grand Canyon (in Tusayan). Our willingness to stay in Tusayan saved us hundreds (versus staying in Grand Canyon Village), to include better food options at a much cheaper price. The apartment was huge and offered plenty of space for us.
This is a fine Hotel: spacious, well run, and fantastic free coffee in the lobby. It is the perfect gateway to the Canyon when on the South Rim. I would say it's probably the best Hotel in Tusayan. The staff is lovely and the guests are from all over the World.
The hotel is situated 15 minutes from the Grand Canyon. In summertime, a shuttlebus toward the parc leaves near the hotel. However, from september, this shuttlebus doesn't run anymore.
The staff is really kind (and very entousiastic at breakfast).
We paid through the nose to get close to Grand Canyon, but I guess that is the norm. Comfortable if plain hotel, breakfast staff were super friendly. If you are on a budget, watch out for food prices at the restaurants around Tusayan.
The room is big in size and has a view to the pool. It provides a table so that we can work easily with laptop.
2mins walk to Grand Canyon Visitor Center.
5mins walk to Starbucks and many restaurants.
Great location in Tusayan, walkable to restaurants and shops. Easy drive into the park entrance. The staff go above and beyond. Super friendly. They practically serve you breakfast at the buffet.
Really liked the main hotel. Restaurants and bars. Great atmosphere. If we had it to do again we would have stayed in the hotel, however, we had dogs with us so chose studio.
Only 2 miles from the entrance to Grand Canyon National Park. We were able to get a discounted rate to upgrade to this property instead of staying at Holiday Inn Express.
