This "rustic modern cabin" is really a luxury home, brand new, in a beautiful location with golf course and Lake Superior views from the gorgeous living room and gourmet kitchen. Pristinely clean, beautifully designed, super comfortable, tons of space with different places to hang out. Kitchen has everything you need (we cooked 3 of the 5 nights we were there), including wide selection of spices and cooking oils! Beds and bedding luxurious, bathrooms fully stocked with fluffy towels, shower has good pressure and lots of hot water. Games in the cupboard, blankets for cool evenings, gas fireplace on a timer so you don't have to worry if you turned it off, side bar with barstools and USB outlets if you need to check email. This is a glowing description but I promise the real thing is even better.
We walked to the winery, played games in the screen porch and in front of the fireplace. Lutsen Mtn ski resort is less than 5 mins away. Grocery shopping nearby is only for essentials so plan ahead to stock up on your drive if you're planning on cooking.
Todd was extremely helpful and available, checked in and offered help with whatever we might need. Really went to full extent of hospitality - including friendly warning about speed patrols on the drive up the shore! Access via lock box was easy (we are frequent travelers and often find lock box access doesn't work or is way too tricky resulting in frustrating delays on arrival - not here - was very simple and straightforward.)

I have usually stayed closer to Grand Marais but I did like the Tofte location. I explored trails both south and north of Tofte and the stores in Lutsen are nearby. I also enjoyed the North Shore Winery and I was especially impressed by the Schroeder Baking Company as a food option. Other food options are available in Lutsen, Tofte and Schroeder that I may try on future trips. Overall I would consider Tofte or Lutsen as a top location for my next visit to the North Shore. The only downside is the distance from Grand Marais.

The resort is between Tofte and Lutsen. The latter has more to offer vacationers with the ski resort and several dining options. However there are many resorts along the shore between the two towns. The gondola ride at Lutsen Mt to see the fall colors was exceptional. We had a good dinner at Blue Fin and a great, although pricey, dinner at Lutsen Resort. Both dining rooms had wonderful views of Lake Superior. A short day trip to Grand Marais was also fun. It's a trendy fishing village with shops, restaurants and other activities.

Located near the Temperance River and Temperance State Park for great hiking, lake shore picnicking, beach activities, fly fishing, and waterfalls. Tofte has a post office, Holiday station, gift shops, groceries, and several eating establishments. Our favorite was the Blue Fin for great food and fine dining. We stayed at Cliff Dwellers just north of Tofte where every room has a balcony on the cliff edge to view and experience the beauty of Lake Superior. Tofte is only a few minutes from Lutsen and an easy half hour drive to Grand Marais.

We love the North Shore of Lake Superior, with it's Big...
We love the North Shore of Lake Superior, with it's Big Water and little mountains - so like other places in N. America, and so unique at the same time! Tofte has wonderful food, other great lodging in the area (though spendy at other facilities), an interesting history and beautiful setting.
Tofte is close to most of what's available to do and enjoy along the "middle" of the North Shore, and a good base for hiking and day-tripping.

Our stay was during the Covid ordeal so restaurants were not open. We had planned for this and brought our own food. The hiking up various places around Tofte is worth the trip, especially liked hiking up (away from the lake) at Temperance River State Park.

Tofte is in the perfect location for visiting all the state parks on the North Shore. It is also a short distance from Grand Marais, and you can go to Betty's Pies on the way. You can rent bicycles and kayaks in Tofte and there is also a nice supermarket.
Loved the view of Lake Superior from our balcony! The room was perfect for two people--felt spacious and clean. It was great to have a refrigerator and microwave in the room, plus a table and two chairs in the room as well as on the balcony. Made it easy to enjoy a bowl of cereal or oatmeal and fruit in the morning in the privacy of our room. Location was super convenient to state parks and Grand Marais, and the owners were extremely welcoming. We will be coming back:)!!
Absolutely a “10!” Pride of ownership and management is a good way to describe Cliff Dweller. Our room was very updated & clean with nice beds, bedding, & towels. An extra bonus treat was delicious muffins & coffee in the lobby in the morning & was a great perk after skiing all day.

Loved the views, the deck just out the door to watch the lake. And it was the perfect location for all the waterfalls and only about a half hour drive to Grand Marais.
Very nice location, clean, comfy, and they do their best on breakfast. My only issue is the bed and the pillows are too soft, but it’s just personal taste
You can't beat the location. Lake Superior is right outside your own private deck. The room and common areas were very clean.and the staff were pleasant.
