The manager was helpful and accommodating. It’s close to a gas station and a grocery store and is an excellent example of a motel.
It’s an inexpensive, clean room that is just off the highway but has a homelike feel.

Regrettably I didn’t spend much time in Charleston.
Regrettably I didn’t spend much time in Charleston. I deliberately booked this hotel to see the village and it is lovely. I did not expect the homeless and the property as close to the water to be as run down as it was. Clearly the $ benefit of waterfront property hasn’t hit Coos Bay, yet.
The hotel was in a good spot, for sportsmen, it is perfect.

Charleston has a couple of charter fishing boats.
Charleston has a couple of charter fishing boats. And an entire fleet of commercial fishing boats. I would think that it would be impossible to get anything other than a fresh fish meal here. Unfortunately, one establishment the Portside restaurant. Served frozen crab in my meal. Despite there being an entire fleet of fishing boats not more than 500 feet away

This is a working fishing community.
This is a working fishing community. It has plenty of rough edges, but excellent for a view of the fishing fleet and fishing port facilities. Some of the other people at motel had come in order to fish and crab, and the motel and nearby restaurants had facilities for cleaning and cooking the catch. At the motel and port side, the view was definitely industrial, with a lot of hardscape, but nearby parks were really beautiful, with lovely beaches and views of the coast. There were not many open restaurants; several places appeared to have closed because of Covid. We did find local places to eat, not gourmet style but friendly and very down home.

we have always loved this area.
we have always loved this area. We went to Shore Acres and saw the Christmas light display on New Year's Eve, which of course was beautiful. Love Chuck's Seafood; we always take home seafood from there because the prices are so reasonable. LOVE the High Tide restaurant; always the best food and wonderful staff. Very friendly town.
This is our favorite motel to stay at. It's clean, priced just right, and the staff and owners are amazing!!!!! The rooms are great and the beds are comfy. They even have a family suite and rooms that come with kitchenettes. It's nicely located next to some great beaches..Bastendorff and Sunset Beach.. and close to Shore Acres Botanical Gardens. It's just a short drive to Bandon and we always stop at The beach at Seven Devils Wayside. We love love love Captain John's Motel.
We loved the location. It was great for walking around and"Millers at the Cove" sports bar and grill is only steps away.
The staff at the motel were all so friendly.
We also visited the sea life museum just up the road which is also easily walked too with sidewalk all the way.
Charleston is a real working fishing port.
Also, Shore Acres is a must see. Not far away and with spectacular views of amazing element worn sandstone.
For the price it was good . Very clean staff was very friendly. Older style room the bed could have been bigger thought it was a queen it was a double but comfortable. Had everything we needed . Breakfast was just a few pastries and bananas and apples .But again for the price it was something
I would not have been able to afford a hotel on a holiday weekend if they jacked up there prices like everyone else.
It seems that not only Captain John's Motel but the entire town of Charleston are (finally) emerging from the COVID restrictions. The motel is making a huge effort to upgrade and renovate the place, but probably have only limited resources available. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.
I requested an early arrival and was met with extreme kindness and they accomodated me quickly and politely. Super friendly people working there. Housekeeping was polite as well. It's located near the docks in Charleston and only a few minutes drive to the beach.
I do love a motel with character, and Capt. John's has that (along with being comfortable and clean, of course). Charleston is a storied, semi-out-of-the-way place, a fishing port with a marine biology institute. And Capt. John's is just the base camp for it.
Great location near the pier and fishing charters. Older quaint hotel but great deal for the price . Bed were comfy and staff was very nice. Don't Remmber if they provided breakfast but several restaurants in walking distance.
