Captain John's Motel, hotel in Charleston

Located a 5-minute walk from Oregon Institute of Marine Biology, this Coos Bay motel has rooms with free Wi-Fi. It features a garden and a 24-hour front desk.

It was clean, bathroom needs updating, toilet needs to be higher, bed soft, but being it is in a platform, mattress slides around, very noisy neighbors and 2nd story was in the bathroom and using water and shower for almost an hour, very annoying. We stay an extra night and no housekeeping came!!

Regrettably I didn’t spend much time in Charleston.

Regrettably I didn’t spend much time in Charleston. I deliberately booked this hotel to see the village and it is lovely. I did not expect the homeless and the property as close to the water to be as run down as it was. Clearly the $ benefit of waterfront property hasn’t hit Coos Bay, yet. The hotel was in a good spot, for sportsmen, it is perfect.

Charleston has a couple of charter fishing boats.

Charleston has a couple of charter fishing boats. And an entire fleet of commercial fishing boats. I would think that it would be impossible to get anything other than a fresh fish meal here. Unfortunately, one establishment the Portside restaurant. Served frozen crab in my meal. Despite there being an entire fleet of fishing boats not more than 500 feet away

This is a working fishing community.

This is a working fishing community. It has plenty of rough edges, but excellent for a view of the fishing fleet and fishing port facilities. Some of the other people at motel had come in order to fish and crab, and the motel and nearby restaurants had facilities for cleaning and cooking the catch. At the motel and port side, the view was definitely industrial, with a lot of hardscape, but nearby parks were really beautiful, with lovely beaches and views of the coast. There were not many open restaurants; several places appeared to have closed because of Covid. We did find local places to eat, not gourmet style but friendly and very down home.

we have always loved this area.

we have always loved this area. We went to Shore Acres and saw the Christmas light display on New Year's Eve, which of course was beautiful. Love Chuck's Seafood; we always take home seafood from there because the prices are so reasonable. LOVE the High Tide restaurant; always the best food and wonderful staff. Very friendly town.

For the price it was good . Very clean staff was very friendly. Older style room the bed could have been bigger thought it was a queen it was a double but comfortable. Had everything we needed . Breakfast was just a few pastries and bananas and apples .But again for the price it was something I would not have been able to afford a hotel on a holiday weekend if they jacked up there prices like everyone else.

The room was comfortable and the check in was friendly and streamlined. We needed a roll away bed and that was taken care of in a snap. The location was really as close as you can get to Sunset Beach and more. Great seafood right around the corner. Next time I really want to take advantage of the charter boats running out of the harbor too!

Location is great. Charleston is a very small coastal town. But, your 15 minutes from Coos Bay and the Mill casino. Price was good at $ 98.00 compared with $ 150.00 per night on fourth of July weekend.. lots of fisherman use this hotel as the marina is steps away.

Pretty good location, except the trailer park near by and dogs running loose. Great room! Restaurant walking distance and a little beach area. Loved the beds and heaters in each room. Had a full kitchen and supplied everything, even dish soap! Beds were comfortable!

I requested an early arrival and was met with extreme kindness and they accomodated me quickly and politely. Super friendly people working there. Housekeeping was polite as well. It's located near the docks in Charleston and only a few minutes drive to the beach.

Great location near the pier and fishing charters. Older quaint hotel but great deal for the price . Bed were comfy and staff was very nice. Don't Remmber if they provided breakfast but several restaurants in walking distance.

I'm a small town girl. I certainly enjoyed the fact this place is tucked away in Charleston a short drive from Coos. Made my stay a delight not being in the middle of the city. So easy to get to any the fabulous beaches here.

Very nice staff/owner. Large and clean room. Coffee and simple snacks and apples were offered in the morning, which was nice. Charleston is such a nice small town with beautiful state parks. Will definitely return.
