Anchorage AK was a wonderful starting destination for our trip to Alaska. This small city was a great place to fly in and out of and provided all the information we needed to explore Alaska. The airport was easy to access and it was convenient to rent a car. There were many dining options in the city as well as hotels. The scenic views were abundant as well.

Most horrible experience we ever had. We asked for towels.
Most horrible experience we ever had. We asked for towels. Receptionist got rude and nasty to us. We were verbally abused, insulted and told to leave the hotel before they call the police on us. Said we think we’re entitled and acting like 5 year olds throwing Kleenex and toilet paper. No idea why she would say that but by the time we left the front desk and got to our room, toilet paper and Kleenex were on the floor in front of our door. They had time for that but not to bring towels to the room. We had 2 wash cloths and a hand towel. Obviously the room was not cleaned and ready for guests. Will NEVER stay at a Hyatt property again.

The whole place is run down and shabby.
The whole place is run down and shabby. The draperies had holes, the phone was dirty, and the TV controls were sticky. I was afraid of bedbugs but the linens were clean. There were homeless right outside our window playing rap music on loudspeakers. Very sketchy people staying at the hotel. The shuttle drivers were nice, but the desk guy wasn't friendly. It was a very depressing place. Definitely not worth the money. Ramada should be ashamed.

We just had one day to sightsee.
We just had one day to sightsee. We did the city trolley tour in the morning, hosted by a local with excellent knowledge of the city and Alaska generally; it is worth going on the longer trolley tour so you can get off the bus for photos etc.
In the afternoon an out of town tour by “escape anchorage.com” was also excellent and made a good contrast to the city tour, and was good value at $129.
If we had had longer we would have hired bikes to cycle the coastal trail, visited the museum and done a longer trip to one of the national parks.
Restaurants were good - we went to Ginger and 49th State Brewing (both bar / restaurants) and would recommend both. There is plenty to do - but do check the weather, and also Alaska’s 35 different species of mosquitoes (we didn’t see any in mid May)!

We did not have an opportunity to view much of Anchorage as we were headed to Wasilla to visit family. We did eat at the Arctic Roadrunner in Anchorage, which is a very popular burger restaurant; the burgers were great! We stayed at the Hyatt in Anchorage, which is only 8 minutes from the airport. We'd recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to be close to the airport and have a great hotel/restaurant to visit. Directions to the airport were fairly straight forward; there was very little traffic mid-morning Sunday.

Very easy to get around but I recommend a rental car.
Very easy to get around but I recommend a rental car. Lots to see but some of the locations are definitely within driving distance. Alyeska Resort is a must. Tram rail and seven glacier restaurant is very impressive.
This hotel is within walking distance to downtown Anchorage and the walk is picturesque and safe.
If you get to downtown Anchorage and enjoy Asian fusion food, you MUST eat at Ginger on 5th! The food was sublime, we kept going back!
The Anchorage Trolley Tour is $20 and well worth the money. Cyrus and his team are everything you'd expect a tour to be: engaging, information and fun... and funny!
Fun fact: the Inlet was one of a handful of buildings to survive the 1969 earthquake that dropped part of the city 40 feet!
This was an exceptional place for me to stay. The host was awesome and very accommodating. Quickly answered all of my questions that I had and provided recommendations for my visit to the Anchorage area. I had just completed a motorcycle trip across Canada and into Alaska visiting several places. My accommodations were varied over the last 11 days, but this was my favorite! I was in a neighborhood, just like home! Clean and very comfortable, felt just like at home. Thanks again for making my stay pleasant.
The Westmark is very well located in downtown Anchorage, and most of the downtown area is easily walkable from the property. Service was excellent, Jannelle at the front desk was able to get us checked in early after our flight arrived super early and was a comforting presence throughout our stay. I wish every hotel I stayed at had someone like Jannelle at the front desk -- but everyone on the staff we encountered was helpful. Also, value for money is extremely good. Parking was convenient.
The hotel is in a great location being both close to the airport and a jump off point for all sorts of flights tied to tourism. The hotel has a great Alaskan feel and is decorated taking into mind the uniqueness of where you are. The food in the restaurant was some of the best we had in Alaska and all of the community spaces are beautiful and views are beautiful. The guest rooms were very clean and the cleaning staff did a great job. Can't imagine staying anywhere else in Anchorage.
I love this place! It's very close to the airport, the rooms are really big and so are the beds, very comfortable mattress and pillows!
The kitchenette has all the essentials, there is great natural light and artificial when needed.
The staff is really friendly and helpful.
I visited different hotels during my trip, but this was definitely the best one of all!
This time I had a room on the 12th floor and the viewing was stunning!
The location was good; there was a bus stop for going downtown or anywhere in Anchorage. The People Mover bus system in Anchorage works very well. Breakfast was typical Holiday Inn Express...good. They have a 24 hour shuttle which ran very promptly and efficiently. Overall, the hotel was a little expensive but everything is expensive in Anchorage. Still, a great stay and would recommend.
We stayed for 1 night on our honeymoon in Alaska from the UK. We weren’t sure what to expect after reading so many mixed reviews but we loved our stay. Yes the hotel is a bit dated but it was clean and comfortable and great value for money. The staff were so friendly and helpful and the free shuttle service to the airport was brilliant. We would definitely recommend it.
Room and facilities were clean, kind staff. It was cheaper than other hotels. Public transport nearby, easy to get to/from the airport by bus (5-10 min walk from busstop). There was a coffee corner for free I think (didn't use it).
Please note I booked a cheaper hotel so my review reflects my expectations related to that.
The hotel was very nice. Very clean and staff was very friendly. The breakfast was good. I had a room that overlooked the river. I enjoyed watching people salmon fishing. Great location was about a ten minute walk to downtown. I would stay here again if I make it back to Anchorage.
The owner was very welcoming and checkin was a breeze. The studio was warm and suffient for two nights. We loved the easy access to the Anchorage Railway, only a 5 min walk downhill and a 5 min walk into Downtown for many resturants to choose from
Local hotel prices are ridiculously high in Anchorage. This Best Value hotel is very dated but it served my purpose as I am moving to Alaska. The staff was nice and helpful and responsive to my needs of more towels and tp.
Conveniently located few miles from the Anchorage International Airport and dining options. Spacious and clean room. Comfortable bed. Nice staff. Everything looks new and neat. Recommended.
We arrived late and went back to the airport early so did not have breakfast at the hotel. We were late getting into Anchorage so we took a taxi to the hotel .
Older Hotel but very clean. Everyone else in anchorage raised prices when Royal Carribean cancelled cruise. This hotel did not. Also free shuttle to airport
The room was clean and super quiet! I travel for work and stay in Anchorage once a month. For the money, it is the best hotel in Anchorage. Clean and quiet.
