If you need to rent a car, make sure you have international driving permit. Otherwise you are not allowed to rent a car.

Initially the hotel indicated that we need to bring all personal towel and cleaning items eg. shampoo conditioner soap and toothpaste etc etc but we found they provided everything when we got there. It's so easy get around in Hualien there are lots of buses.

The Taroko Gorge was quite a site to behold.
The Taroko Gorge was quite a site to behold. We had a private TourGuide, Allen, who was full of great historical knowledge not only of Taiwan, but of the Taroko people. We also took the opportunity to go river rafting and were able to do a shrimp, catching and nighttime barbecue, which was delicious!

Hualien is easily accessible by train from small or major cities, either with the express or local trains. It is also a great starting point to discover the central east cost, with wonders like Taroko gorge and Walami trail.
In the city, the Dongdamen night market is worth spending a few evenings.

The city itself is big and need time to explore. The coastal park facing the Pacific Ocean is highly recommended to visit. Also the Taroko Gorge tour is a must together with the many other sightseeing tours.
Stayed one night during my bicycle trip around Taiwan. I chose this homestay because it's right across from the Hualien train station. Due to hazardous road conditions, it is recommended that bicyclists take the local train from Hualien to Su'aoxin station before continuing. I messaged the host, who allowed me to store the bicycle in my room.( I did have to carry the bicycle up one flight of stairs.). The room was clean, and large. I used the breakfast voucher at the 7-11 next door. It's a really good value

Hotel is just opposite the bus terminal. Easy to move around the places of interest.
Reception was great and recommended places to eat including places that the locals eat.
Also notice that they even have rooms that cater to the handicap which is a rare find!
The place gives a local Taiwan feel yet modern.

I want to say thank you to Robert and Siling for their kindness they showed us at the reception when we checked into the hotel. They gave us some information on getting to Taroko Gorge.
Furthermore, we received an upgrade to a larger room and it was very spacious. I really admire their choice in being an eco-friendly facility, trying to reduce waste and helping the environment. I want to see this in action.
I rented the room for one person. Great room which opens on a big roof terrace with a table, with only another room (a double room) on the same floor (the owners live on another floor). I loved it. It was very quiet, and the owner (a very nice man, cheerful and full of good will) lends free bikes to his guests, which is very practical to visit the town. Best room I've rented in Taiwan.
Cheapest hostel i’ve stayed at in Taiwan during my backpacking trip in Taiwan. According to the owner she actually dropped the price because there was a typhoon coming during the time i stayed, so people going around the island could have a cheap place to rest before the typhoon is gone.

This hotel exceeded my expectations! The owner speaks English and was very helpful. The Auntie who cleans was so sweet and made sure we had what we needed. The beds were comfortable. The shower had great pressure. Free washing machine usage was a major plus. It was easy to walk to restaurants and the night market from here 🙃Would definitely stay here again!
This is a very professionally done-up hotel, like staying in an antique house. The host was extremely helpful and patient, as we had to use google translate for everything. The common area is the cleanest I've seen. Plenty of restaurants around, though the bus connections to the train station are not so close, best bus stop is about 10-minute walk.
The location was good. An easy 11 min bus ride from the train station, lots of shops and restaurants nearby, an 8 minute walk to the night market. The room size was nice and rooms were clean. Bathrooms were in separate room. The room we had, had a very large king size bed. The hotel was clean and attractive. They held our luggage for us when we arrived early and had umbrellas for us to use. It was very close to Hualien train station. Walkable to many restaurants.
Breakfast is great! The spread is beyond my expectations and I believe it is one of the best among the few hotels I stayed in Taiwan during the period. The "Happy Hour" is also very nice with beer, drinks and snacks. It allows us to chill after a long day checking out Hualien.
My wife and I spent 3 nights at the hotel - the only positive we see is the location of the hotel. The hotel is in a quiet part of the city, close to the train and bus stations.
The hotel staff spoke very bad English, but they had the effort to communicate and negotiate.
We had a good time at this place! The place was well-furnished and had a great aesthetic. The host was also very friendly and responsive, and offered us breakfast and fruits during our stay. Will definitely recommend for larger groups or families visiting Hualien city!
Beautiful location right by the water, with lots of great food nearby. Highly recommend using the bike path from just outside the hotel, to bike down to Qixing and the very cute Japanese Treat shop across the street
