housewithnonails, hotel in Te Aroha

Featuring garden views, housewithnonails in Matamata features accommodations, a garden, and a shared lounge.

We arrived mid-afternoon in the depths of the NZ winter to a warm home and equally warm welcome. The building is a remarkable and unique building made largely of wood, built, assembled and constantly innovated upon by the skillful hands of Dewi and his equally lovely wife Jen. Although we’d booked the loft, they allowed us to choose whichever rooms we wished for privacy in order to maximise our comfort, a recurrent theme of our stay. Although a little way out of the region’s main town of Matamata, its location on a back road guaranteed an absolutely silent - and very dark - night, perfect for that night’s rest city people didn’t realise was possible, with an amazing opportunity for stargazing to boot. Given our intention to visit Hobbiton, it was also a short drive there and back. Quiet · Great value - Rooms Extremely comfy and spacious, with ample beds and constant warmth from the fireplace that pumps heat through the house. Pitch black once the lights are out, and totally silent, making for an incredible night’s sleep. Nearby activities - Hobbiton - south of Matamata. Visits to the largest waterfall in NZ, visible from the back window of the kitchen. Easy access to one of NZ’s great trails, just east of the property. Noteworthy details - We woke to fresh baked nutty seed loaf in the oven and a huge wooden table covered in breakfast condiments. I’ll remember that bread and its texture for years. The bathroom was situated on a large solid concrete slab over the kitchen, kept toasty warm through the heated floor from the fireplace.

Quiet town, but located near some great walks that could take 2 days to enjoy. Private spring baths are a must and also well run by the local council. The visitor information is filled with all the rele=ant material to make the stay enjoyable.

Te Aroha, translated, means Love, and that is what you will find there, especially if your fortunate to visit Sunday service in the Anglican church, and bonus, staying in the Nunne ry, accommodation, mountain trek, is challenging, but worth it, cycle trails , mostly sealed paths easy going, interesting Spa, and museum, good food, many places to eat, river walks, everything you want for a few days passing through.

Scenery, hot pools and mountain walks are the main reasons to visit Te Aroha. Very limited range of accommodation and restaurants, probably more so since covid lockdowns. Disappointing that in the middle of the holiday season most restaurants were closed in the evening.

Te Aroha is a diamond in the rough .

Te Aroha is a diamond in the rough . It posses the only Soda Hot Spring existing in the world! A wonderful experience and privilege to be soaking in water that is so special, a total Must Do! The Estuary Walk was equally amazing as well as the walks up the mountain and the walk to the Waiwiri Waterfall . The town has some excellent cafes and restaurants including the Ironic Cafe with yummy, healthy, vegan food options as well And I lived the Organic shop/cafe where you can get nearly everything under the sun considered natural and wholistic, cute place to sit and relax too.

Te Aroha is a small, pretty town.

Te Aroha is a small, pretty town. We found the locals really friendly. We are walkers so wanted to walk the mountain and weren't disappointing. The town itself has everything you could need - a spa, restaurants and cafes, supermarkets.

Finding your way around Te Aroha is really easy.

Finding your way around Te Aroha is really easy. The town is clean and well cared for. There is loads to do eg cycling (mountain bike park or cycle trails), walking (around town or up the mountain), spa (youve got to try booking a mineral spa for an hour!), gardens (they are beautiful), eateries (loads of choice... we ate dinner at The Grand but the RSA was the best choice), If youre a coffee snob like us then Villa Nine has the best ... and the best pies!), Ironique Cafe does great food, but not too far out of town if youre doing the cycle trail is the Old Forge and a little further Cafe 77.

It has a full kitchen, laundry with washing machine, air conditioner, a huge TV with google chrome etc. We had more than what we needed. It felt as convenient as staying at home. The location of the motel is perfect, close to everything. Te Aroha Mineral Spas, the starting point of Te Aroha Tracks, are within walking distance, Countdown is across the road, i-SITE and Museum are next doors. Many eateries on both sides. Staffs, especially Glenys, are very accommodating and friendly, gave us many good advice for our trip.

Our group of 9 had a great time at Te Aroha Motel. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful. The location is simply superb, with easy access to nearby attractions and restaurants. The next day we had a lovely walk to Wairere Falls which is just 25km from the motel. I would definitely recommend this motel to anyone looking for a nice place with a great location.

A novel and authentic accommodation - it is relatively spartan (appropriate for an ex-nunnery) with shared bathroom and toilet facilities. Rooms are small and everything is spotlessly clean. Location is great and it is an easy walk to the Spa and restaurants.

Everything was lovely, clean, well set out and everything one needed for a nice break away. Te Aroha is small, but the motel location was great, right in front of the famous hot pools. Staff very friendly, no complaints for this accommodation.
