Fès is a kaleidoscope of colours, smells and sensations, and its intricate urban design is an allegory of its own identity. Live up to the pace of this ancient Babel, and go the whole hog immerging yourself into its 1001 Nights atmosphere. Check out the Booking.com hotel deals in fascinating Fès and enjoy!
Commonly spelled Fez, this city was Morocco’s capital during Middle Ages. The city was originally composed of two separate settlements located along the banks of the Jawhar River. Madinat Fas was founded in 789 by Idris I, while Al-'Aliya was founded by his son Idris II. Both towns grew autonomously until the Almoravids unified them in 1070 under the name ‘Fas’. The city is still considered a beacon of the Islamic civilisation, due to its ancient ‘madrasas’ Islamic colleges.
The Old Town or ‘medina’ has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, representing one of the best preserved historic centres in the world. The famous ‘riads’ or small traditional hotels are located in the medina, which is also called Fes Al-Bali.
The city can be reached through Fès Saïss Airport, or from the airports in Casablanca and Rabat via railway or bus connection. Whether you’re looking for a luxury hotel in Fez New Town or a historic ‘riad’ in the medina, don’t miss Booking.com’s wide offering!
I travel frequently. Fez, and Morocco in general, is underwhelming. While several day trips are possible, the main attraction in Fez is the Medina. It is interesting to walk through it but after a few hours I had enough. You cannot enter most attractions (Mosques, University) so you're left wandering the Medina. The shops are diverse in terms of merchandise but they are overly aggressive and often rude.

I lived in Fes for five years, so I will be biased.
I lived in Fes for five years, so I will be biased. I love this city and it has a special place in my heart. I learned Arabic here over 20 years ago, I came back some years later and worked as an English teacher and Arabic to English translator, and my recent visit was a visit for the peace of my soul.
If you are going to visit with a family, I would recommend an apartment in the new city (la Ville Nouvelle), especially the two that I stayed in. The old city (the Medina) is not easy to navigate with a stroller and the facilities in the riyads there are not family friendly (unless you are willing to pay top dollar), to say the least. Staying in the Medina means roughing it, so if you're young and single, or a young couple with no children, maybe you can hack it.
For food, I highly recommend Jawhara Cafe next to the American Language Centre (Rue Ahmed Hiba) for breakfast (great harsha, malawi, coffee, tea etc.) and Restaurant Florence on Rue Hassan II for lunch or dinner; they make amazing couscous, tagine, and every great Moroccan dish at great prices.

What an amazing city - filled all the senses .. such warm hospitality, amazing food and history abounds - the artisans and craftsmanship of the local people was astounding - I loved every minute during my stay from the getting lost in the Medina's alley's to exploring the historic city - My tour guide Hassan was magnificent - so spoiled by all his knowledge and ability to read his customers.... We so enjoyed all his recommendations and more importantly - all the knowledge he shared with us - Please make sure you allocate enough time in this beautiful city and enjoy the hidden Roads and their restaurants! The food and spices are simply amazing!

Fez is good just for a day and it’s good to go to chefchouien from there for a day trip. Be careful of the people who take you to the tanneries and local outlets where they overcharge for stuff. The Medina has lots of shops having cheaper stuff of similar quality so better to check in different places before buying. Food is very good everywhere. Taxis are cheap. Place is very safe.

just dont. Morocco has a lot more good cities to spent time.
just dont. Morocco has a lot more good cities to spent time. If you really want to see then 1 day would be plenty but for me even this duration might be too long. In this city you always need to be on your toes or else you are an easy target for people who wants to just squeze money out of you
The riad is traditional and incredibly well kept. Everything makes sense, from the copper fixtures in the bathrooms to the carved wooden beams all around the building structure. The best part was definitely Mr. Hadou, who received us almost like family, he and his wife had the best meals I had in Morocco made for us.
The location of the riad is perfect, near the blue gate and on the Main Street of Fez.
For rooms, in summer on should choose the ground floor rooms because they are the fresher.
Breakfast was always great.
Dar Lantana was exceptional--Catherine, the host, has amazing communication and is so helpful. Her staff is also so warm - Alal was helpful when she was not around and the cook can work some serious magic. We were in Morocco on a 10-day trip and the breakfast at Dar Lantana was the best one, hands down, out of all the places we have eaten (cafes, restaurants and other riads). The location is perfect for exploring the Fes medina. If you have any questions, Catherine can answer them and her recommendations are spot on.
Riad Fes Aicha is the best place to stay.
It is very close to the entrance of the Medina (the most interesting attraction of Fez).
The host Omar is very kind, helpful and very nice.
The breakfast is very good, plentiful, full of fresh and homemade food. Moreover, on the morning of our departure, the flight was at 6 a.m. and Omar prepared a take-away breakfast for us (even if it wasn’t the breakfast hours).
The room was comfortable.
Omar gave us numerous recommendations.
We highly recommend this hotel.
It's a nice hotel, with a pool, several outside areas, a restaurant, café and bar in an area with loads of cafés and restaurants. The location is not very central, but if you use petite taxi you can get to the city center for around 11-13 dirham. Don't fall for the taxi drivers that linger around outside the hotel. Locals probably know. On the opposite site of the street, there is at least one simple, good, local, and cheap restaurant to have coffee, breakfast, and even lunch/dinner.
Mohamed was a great host! This was the best Road experience I had in my 2 week trip to Morocco.
Breakfast was delicious, the Riad is beautiful, and in a really good location, close to the blue gate in the medina, but in a quiet area.
You can exchange $ and book tours directly through Mohammed, which was very convenient
I booked 3 day Desert tour through him and got a way better deal than if I would've booked online.
If you come to Fez I highly recommend staying here.
Can't say enough positive things about Chahd Palace. The location was a perfect combination of easy access to taxis and to the old medina. Best of all though was our host, Moufid. He was kind, patient, and generous with us - giving us insider info that helped us tremendously with the rest of our trip through Morocco. Can not thank Moufid enough! The accommodations were extremely comfortable and would certainly recommend staying at Chahd Palace during your trip to Fes!
The service at the riad was the best I have experienced in my solo adventure in Morocco. I was intimidated by Fez due to the size of the medina and it was during Ramadan, but with the help from the riad, I was provided superb advice what to do and how to navigate myself in the medina. We even shared a great Ramadan breakfast together. The Riad has a breathtaking panoramic view of the majestic medina of Fez and u can have your breakfast there every morning.
We had an incredible stay at Riad Soultana! The location is perfect – nestled in a safe area of the Medina. The terrace is a hidden gem with breathtaking views. Our room was a dream – spacious, beautifully decorated, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. Breakfast was also nice. Special shoutout to Aziza – the star of our stay! She went above and beyond, helping us organize our time in Fes and throughout Morocco. Grateful for the fantastic experience!

As the dedicated organizers of Cultural Morocco Tours, we enthusiastically endorse choosing this establishment for your stay. It consistently maintains its standing as one of our top-tier booking recommendations, guaranteeing an impeccable experience for our discerning guests.
- Good and safe location (10min from blue gate by walk)
- Cleaning every day
- For Morrocan standards the breakfast is above average (I would still suggest to add some vegetable, fruits, less sweet/sugar stuff in general)
- This riad is comparing to others actually run professionally by a good manager Salah, he was helpful thorough our stay
- I think this riad is very close to 4* hotels, you won't find a better value for that money in Fes Medina
We have had a great stay at Omar's Riad! Very welcoming, helpful and truthful! Located in the heart of the medina, Omar will give you any valuable tips you may need.
The room was tidy, comfortable and we did not miss anything.
Breakfast was amazing and among the best we have had in Morocco so far, thank you!
We definitely recommend everyone to stay here while in Fes.
Merci !
Jean-Paul & Yen
The staff Mohamed and Hassan were so lovely and welcoming. They did everything they could to make sure we had everything we needed. They even helped us find our mother when we lost her in the medina.
The building was also very beautiful and spotless, the cleanest stay we've had in Morocco. When we return to Fes we will stay here again for sure.
Loved everything about this place. It’s inside a historic house nearby the entrance of the Medina. All the staff was amazing, Youssef and Mohammed always tried to made our staying pleasant and safe. Mohammed even walks with you to guide you outside the alleys that connect the hotel to the Main Street. I would def come back if ever back in Fes
Beautiful Riad in the heart of the Fes Medina. Our room was wonderfully decorated in the Moroccan style.
The breakfast on the terrace was the best we had while in Morocco. Truly superb!
Othman was a superb host! He seemed to work 24hrs a day!! Always gave us good advice and was very available for suggestions.
We had a really nice stay at the hotel. The stuff was very nice and showed us all the things we could possibly do in Fes. The guy who was at the rezeption when we arrived even drew us a whole plan so we could find our way threw the Medina. The breakfast at the rooftop was very good too!
The location is ideal to discover the Fes Medina. The hotel is an old house which was well restored to reflect the ancient style. All the staff were very helpful. Ideal for someone who loves to travel back into the past to get a feel for how people lived hundreds of years ago.
This riad was the best one we stayed at while in Morocco. The rooms were huge, the breakfast was amazing, and the service was exceptional. Our experience with this Riad went above and beyond expectations. We will stay here again when we’re back in Fes.
We were told that Riad Fes Maya was built by a pasha; it's the most sumptuous hotel I've ever stayed in. Tile, carved plaster and wood everywhere. The bedroom was large and comfortable. Breakfast on the roof in a glass room with a wonderful view.
Great place to stay in the Medina of Fes. The host is very friendly and does his best to make the stay as pleasant as possible.
The breakfast is freshly made and very good.
Great value.
