The staff and facilities here were great. I loved the location and the fact that it's a family owned/operated spot. Of the 3 places I stayed at in Guatamala this was my favorite and I would absolutely book a stay here again. Additionally they supported me in getting a shuttle out of Pana for the airport the day I left and without them setting me up with the right logistics I would've missed my flight. I looked into booking through a nearby hostel and not only was it far more expensive but in reading reviews their shuttles take 2-3 hours longer with the stops they take.

Main Street Santander is not ideal, you listen to reggaeton music in many places which is terrible and so disgusting. There are many little restaurants where you can eat for a fair price. The lake view is great but the surroundings are not very nice, the place is not tourist ready, you might go to other little towns like San Pedro, Santa Cruz or San Juan

Like with many places (or even more than most places)...
Like with many places (or even more than most places) depending on your choices Panajachel can be fabulous, beautiful, exhausting, authentic, spiritual, commercial and ……Read about it as much as you can before you go. Endless options here for all kinds of traveler. I found it to be very interesting and would love to be able to come back some day.

Panajachel is paradise. The weather is beautiful.
Panajachel is paradise. The weather is beautiful. Lots of sun, but not too hot most of the time. Lots of great restaurants. There are a lot of markets stalls around with local goods, like hand woven textiles. The lake itself is amazing. Panajachel has access to something for everyone. San Juan for artists, San Pedro for a nice night life, San Antonio for pottery, San Marcos for yoga retreats, etc. All of the towns are just a lancha (ferry) ride away. Be careful during the rainy season, because in the afternoons you can get soaked

This is a very clean and safe place to stay.
This is a very clean and safe place to stay. I felt very safe being out during the day and at night also. It is easy to get a tuk tuk to take you where you want to go. There are plenty of places to eat with a variety of menu choices. Most menus have vegetarian options. I have never had a problem with finding great food and the prices are very reasonable.
If you want to explore the other villages on the lake, it is easy to take a public boat and go anywhere.

This town is so much fun.
This town is so much fun. Definitely has a tourist trap vibe but the activities here are so much fun. We did an ATV tour to see the sunset. We had a blast! The views were breathtaking. There was some road work that cut our planned tour short but the guild we had was amazing and did what he could to make it a full and worth while experience. Simoon tours was who we went with. Yesua was our guild, though I could be butchering his name, sorry if I am. He was amazing! I would absolutely do other tours they offer, especially if he was the guild again. So much fun!
Set on the spectacular banks directly overlooking Lake Atitlan, this 2-story hotel is beautifully designed in a "horseshoe" around a large swimming pool with a smaller, warmer pool a few feet away. Our large upgraded room had a balcony with a perfect view of the lake and a majestic palm tree. It was so relaxing. The restaurant serves wonderful Guatemalan food with a modern twist and the freshest tortillas you could want. The Villa Santa Catarina may be a little pricier than neighboring facilities but it is worth every penny.
The location is perfect and right in the middle of town. All the rooms have a patio to sit outside and enjoy the garden views. The room is beautiful, comfortable, and so clean. The staff are so amazing, kind, and accommodating. We have visited twice now, and it is definitely the hotel for us in Panajachel. We live in Guatemala, but my wife is from the United States and we have stayed in quite a few hotels in Pana. If you are looking for a clean, affordable, and excellent staff, look no more. This is the hotel for you!
We had a great time. David and his family are so so nice. They prepared a lovely breakfast for only 25q per person. In the middel of the local area, no tourists so perfect for the real Guatemala experience. When we arrived in Panajachel he was there to pick us up. David texted us the directions with pictures to the home stay the day before so we probably would have found it by ourselves. The fact that he was there, showed exactly how kind he is.
Excellent location. There are very few properties that have a beach on the lake. The hotel has a better beach and lake access than the more expensive neighbours. I also enjoyed the complementary kayaks. The hotel is right next to the national park and is within a walking distance to Panajachel although I would not recommend walking after dark because there is no sidewalk. Tuktuks are also plentiful.
Perfect location to explore lake Atitlan and surroundings - central and quiet at the same time.
It was the best breakfast we had after a month travelling in central America. :-) While some reviews wrote that they had to choose their breakfast on the first day for the whole stay, this is not the case. We changed it easily several times during our stay.
Very friendly staff. Comfortable beds.
The hotel had the most amazing views and was a great distance to the boat dock and Calle Santander. The food and rooms were okay, and the staff was very nice. I got sick with Dengue Fever and the staff called me a car (for free) to drop me off and pick up from the hospital. They also sent someone to the pharmacy to pick up medicine for me which I really appreciated. :)
Hospedaje el Viajero is located very conveniently in the heart of Panajachel. They also have a few parking spots that you can reserve in advance with a small payment.
The staff is kind and the rooms and clean.
Despite being in the center, you can easily sleep and the night is quiet to get good rest - as well as you could go out for drinks.
Probably the best value I’ve had on any hotel ever. Best shower pressure / heat in Guatemala, comfy large beds, everything is extremely clean and the staff helpful to bits. Owner even came out to help us park, which was in a very safe place behind a gate. 30Q for a large homemade breakfast!
The most beautiful view from the balcony! We were in an immense corner room with windows all around as well. The family are so lovely. And as this is located at the end of the road in Panajachel, it's super quiet and there are no neighbouring buildings to the right.
The staff is always friendly. They can help you make arrangements to visit other parts of Guatemala. I like the location because it is a short walk to the local market. If you are going to the lake you can easily catch a tuk tuk at the end of the road.
Peaceful location on the shores of lake Atitlan in beautiful gardens
Staff were helpful and friendly without being intrusive
Room comfortable with outstanding views
Able to walk to the Atitlan Nature Reserve (about 500m ) which is worth a visit.
We got a double room and it was so clean and pretty and the bed was comfortable. There were clean floor and bath towels and everything worked well. The hotel had great facilities, cheap shuttles in and out of Atitlan and the breakfast was tasty.
Spacious hotel grounds with parking in a great location. Beautiful outdoor garden spaces. Good hot water pressure. Comfortable beds. Room and bathroom were clean. It was a quiet stay, and very pleasant. Great 3 night stay in Panajachel!
Very good location super close to the boats taking you to other cities at Atitlan Lake. Well-equipped kitchen where you can make your food (most of the restaurants in Pana overprice they offer). Very friendly staff.
Everything was perfect. Great little Hotel with a garden a great sized triple room. We didn't like Panajachel but the Hotel definitely was the best.
No surcharge of 5% paying with card.
Decent breakfast.
This is by far the cleanest hotel in Latin America. It’s not even close. The owner was friendly and the property had everything needed for a comfortable stay.
